If it is available you would be foolish not to take advantage of it.... that does not make the fact that it is availble right...

I believe they are in the same category, How did i get my schooling paid for? My Dental? My medical, My Tax free cigs nd fuel? Its because of the treaties, the free ride is about the treaties. u could say i took a free ride from the gov

This mite stir up sum chit.

I took advantage of my free ride or treaty rights, and made it work for me, went to sec school, passed with high marks, 3rd in class. Now i work my a$$ off, and love doin it.

and in my mind everyone is equal, im sorry but i was born into this brown body.

As long as there is special treatment for different people, everyone will not be equal..........

what would u do or act if u where in my shoes.......

Exactly. You want to know why a lot of people don't like reserves and native americans? Because you get all this special treatment, it causes a LOT of anger and hate towards them. You want to be equal, BUT still get all these benefits, can't have it all.

Ya if it's availible it is foolish not to take it, because if you don't someone else will. But it shouldn't be availible. Why should you be able to go into a store and not pay GST like everyone else for example? I guess it would be pointless paying tax when it is likely tax dollars are what is paying for the stuff to begin with....

Yep some people do but guess what, that isn't the one everyone hears about, it's the freeloading ones. No hate at all, just tired of the complaining about how they got it so hard, even regular working ones see a TON of benefits, no reason to complain about anything. I'd really like to know what % work a normal job and support themselves, just a guess but I bet it's under 10%.

Geez, imagine how much hatred there would be if they took these benefits and used them to full advantage. People would be real pissed to see mansions and Cadillacs on the reserves.
Most kids on reserves have no chance right from the get-go. What good is free education if you don't have any food in your belly at school, or heat in your home. And if that's all you have known all your life, where does the change come from? There needs to be a break from one generation to another, Having FAS and drug and alcohol addicted adults raising kids only perpetuates the problem. I think that's what they attempted with the residential schools but we know how that turned out. This has to be something that is driven by natives, not imposed by outsiders. It's going to take people much smarter than me to come up with a solution to this one.

Nothing personally against you dude.... I do believe that Canada needs to get on with being canada and all canadians should have equal access to all priviledges and services. I'm not an idiot I understand that it is a lot more complicated than that and righting the political landscape is a daunting task. I understand that your people were here long before the european settlers arrived and there were horrible things done to the Native people and for this I think that you should have rights, all the same rights as other canadians. Along with all the bad there was some good that came of the white man.....the crap that was done to your people although wrong was long in the past and back in those days native north americans were not the only civilization which was abused, displaced, discriminated against, and taken advantage of. Fortunately the world in most respects is a much more civilized place now, especially here in canada.

All I'm getting at is that all people should have equal rights.....sorry I lie, all natural born canadians should have equal rights and our immigration policies should be aimed at the betterment of our country, and immigrents should enjoy the same rights and priviledges once they have completed citizenship and have proven that they are a positive contributing member of society.

My ancestors on my grandfathers side arrived in quebec in the 1800's and the other branches of my ancestory to halifax not long after, since that time my family has contributed to this country through construction, farming, healthcare and a long history of military service including WWI, WWII and Korea followed up by peacekeeping missions in kabul and other middle eastern tours.

I just think that it's time we as a country accept all as equal and move forward as opposed to continuously trying to right the wrongs of our fore fathers. thats just my 2 cents, when I do meet you in person munhoez I will view you and treat you as any other person I meet, makes no matter to me what a persons herritage is, each person is defined by thier own choices and actions....

native or not..... you'll always be an azzhat in my books.....

Bwahahahahah.....

i get the first part, not the second.

Here you have the wisest words this forum likely has seen all week.

remember the native fellas we partied with in the parking lot of the BW last year? them were some hard working, hard playing young men that took advantage of the programs available to them on the reserve to start a company and pay their own way. great bunch of guys, and we had a lot of fun. you could tell they had a chip on their shoulders when it came to the white man, but they loosened up when they realized we were all just a bunch of people looking to get their piece of the pie and live the life we desire. do I have a problem with the advantages they are afforded over us? absolutely not....I believe the percentage of natives that are motivated to make a better life is small compared to their total population. would more be motivated if there were no handouts? I believe the answer is yes.

This deep issue that goes back before any of us were around. First this is not an issue of blame, but one of ownership. The day the treaties were signed the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] nation peoples were the smarter group. They secured their way of life, and financial security for generations (would all not do that for ourselves) what it became was nobodies intention. The white peoples of the past made some poor decisions that had huge impact on the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] nation peoples such as residential schools, which one of many factors that has lead us to the problems of today (can not be down played). Greed and laziness by all has clouded everything and created problems all over, basically bad peoples taking advantage and good peoples doing nothing (the only thing evil needs to succeed is good people not to do anything). 1[SUP]st[/SUP] nations have an amazing culture, spirituality and can be followed in modern times. Problem there is a culture disconnect, 1[SUP]st[/SUP] nation peoples need to take ownership of this and put the pride back into tribe. Getting rid of all the Res. will only lead to more failure at this point and displaced persons. Canadians must understand that throwing money at things is not a fix unless it goes to the right place and proper check and balances that allow growth not restrict. There are many very capable 1[SUP]st[/SUP] nation peoples that have good hearts, who need to step up and take ownership understand the problem and find solutions. 1[SUP]st[/SUP] nations needs to find a good circle and out of the circle they find themselves in. There is no easy fix and it must come from inside. Canadians must own that we are part of this problem and must support the fix. This is something that will not happen over night, but 1[SUP]st[/SUP] nations has a very large young generation right now, it is a must that if there is to be healing it has to start now. Education and the fight against additions right now is the key to success. Time for the good peoples to stand up, we are all Canadians and all have fought for our freedoms going back to 1812. Together we can heal, but not when we are laying blame. My two cents

Saw on the news that the chief kicked the federal investigator off the reserve for wanting to see how the indians are spending their federal grant money! He said the feds are trying to cover up the living conditions on the reserve! What's this chief trying to hide!!Why would this reserve be any worse than any other in that province don't they all get about the same money per person! If the chief is up to something maybe they should take care of it themselves instead of pointing the finger at the white mans government!Aren't these councils on the reserve voted on by their residents? If the council is crooked get rid of them!!

Read that this morning. Way to help the cause there fellas.

/edit: So they don't want the white man to say how to spend the money, yet it's the white man's fault that they live in such conditions? If you don't see an issue here, you're missing something.
