Pro RMK fuel pump - 13-15

Hi Guys,

I have a 2015 Pro RMK 800. Last ride out, my fuel pump was making an odd sound, kind of like a work trucks backup buzzer but faint. When I checked at one dealer, they just said that my fuel pump was on the way out. I pulled the pump, hoses and all out to see if the pickups could have been plugged up and it wasn't sucking like it should, but everything looked fine. Fuel filter was on second ride at that point, but it was the aftermarket one, not the stock polaris fuel filter, so I have now put the old stock one back in for the next ride to see if it makes any difference.

I saw that the pump was a Walbro F20000286 pump. It appears that you can buy these for about $85. My question is, has anyone tried to pull the pump out of the Grey encasing that polaris has it in? I was able to remove the bottom part and it appears that you should be able to just slide the pump out of that grey holder but I didn't want to pull too hard and wreck it yet. It would be great to be able to just replace the pump for $85 instead of $600 from Polaris for the whole thing.

I've swapped a couple out in my machines super easy. Get a clamp meter and check what it's drawing. If it's over 5 amp it's junk. I put a walbro one in a coupon years ago in a 2011 and I got a fuel pump ground fault code. I did end up trying it again in my 2014 and it worked good.

so how did you get the pump out of the grey casing that holds it?

I have not removed one from a 14. I'm using a 11/12 style fuel pump in my 14. I did have a newer style pump out noticed it was different but did not check how it comes apart.

you may possibly be hearing the pressure relief. if you run the pump off a battery with the unit off they make a lot of noise. my 12,13,15 all do it. just a thought.

Well, I had the sled bog a couple times during climbs during the day and twice on the ride back to the truck I gave her full throttle, I got the det light and the sled shut off. So I think it is more than just the pressure relief valve. When I got the det light, I was pretty much out of gas the first time, but the second time, I had added 10L so that shouldn't have been the problem the second time.

I have a used pump assembly out of a 2012 if you want to save some money. Sled was running great when I parted it out.

Looking at the parts fiche, the part number is different and I am pretty sure when I was looking at fuel filter info, it said that the fuel filter is a different one than the newer ones which means the connections are different. I think if I tried an old pump assembly, I would also need the fuel filter and the return line.

Just changed the pump in my 13. To get just the pump out of the plastic housing there is two halves to the housing, the lower half has a tab that needs to be lifted up out of a detent and then rotated. To get the pump out of the top half there is a piece of black hose from the return spout on the pump to the return on the housing, what I did was take a small screwdriver and gently pry the two apart and it slides right out.

thanks BCSledder. I had managed to get the bottom part of housing off, but my pump seemed pretty solid in the top half. I guess I will have to try it again and get a new walbro pump ordered.

No problems slipping the new pump back onto that hose?
No problems once you put it back together or have you ridden it yet?

Ya mine was a little stubborn to get out of the top half out, I ended up using a #1 Robertson but any screw driver that fits should work haha. I pried against the plastic housing and fuel pump body, I had to pry a little harder than you think you should but with some patience it came out. Sliding the new pump in was as easy as that it just slide right in. I did ride it this past Sunday, as far as the pump goes it seams to be good, it felt stronger for sure, I am fighting some other electrical issues which makes it hard to say how much better it is. I'm hoping to have it rectified by the weekend and go out on sunday.
