I was doing some research last night, rk tek has a "fix kit" for $375.00, comes with pistons, rings, and the base gasket. Long as your wrist pin and the needle bearings are fine, cylinder walls are fine and have no warping, you should be able to do a top end yourself with no trouble. 2-stroke top ends are pretty simple. Take that $375, throw on another hundred or two for miscellaneous gaskets, cleaners, lubes, might have to buy a goofy tool or two, then when the job is done, some celebritory beverages. I'm considering having the RK Tek kit (or equivalent, not trying to start another peeing contest here) on hand for when the moment comes.

Sure wish I installed the "fix kit" this past summer, I thought I would get a season out of it since it had only 1400 km's when I bought it. Now I have to find an entire motor... My case is cracked. Not cool

when u say the fix kit, would the PAR head do the same thing or is the fix kit something totally different?

Totally different. PMS fix kit uses taller pistons & a 1/4" base shim to minimize piston rocking in the cylinder hence minimize side loading on piston/cylinder skirts and fatigue failure with parts falling into the bottom end. RKT "fix kit" is a bit more of a mystery, different (lighter) piston and no base shim (hence cheaper) and maybe pin location? RKT not great at explaining their theory however either will be better than stock loose fitting rocking pistons.

The PMS kit works well it is $650.00 for the kit we stock it.

I'm not trying to start a fight, just curious as to what the contents of the PMS kit are compared to the RKT kit? The RKT "fix kit" is 375.00, has pistons, rings, and base gasket... What does the PMS kit have for another 275.00?

this is what i found out that comes with the pms kit.....i will want something probably for next year just not sure which is better either...As long as both can add more reliabilty than stock, don't think either is a bad choice...also $375us for RKT and the PMS is $210 more $585us

Thanks Rudy. I looked that up, interesting how they use a shim for clearance. RKT must just change the position of the piston pin to allow for the longer skirt...

RKT piston is same height as stock piston. PMS piston is 1/4" taller than stock piston so needs the 1/4" base shim to work with the stock rods/cylinders/porting. Being taller than stock the PMS piston is more stable in the cylinder bore with respect to rocking motion and side loading on skirts. The RKT option doesn't have the mechanical advantage of the PMS taller piston however it does reduce skirt loading due to the lighter weight and design and better fitment of the piston to wall clearance. So IMO one costs more because it offers a more complete solution however either one is improvement over stock.

On the saskatchewan kijiji website there is a company selling shortblock engines for around 2g... Not sure if they have the correct application... POLARIS SHORTBLOCK - Saskatchewan Snowmobiles For Sale - Kijiji Saskatchewan CanaIf

If that was precise engines in saskatoon they are awsome. Sent them my motor UPS had it back 5 days later new crank, pistons and gaskets. Cylinders were good or it would of cost more. Put 2000k on that motor no issue. I think cost was $1900 if i remember right.

Yes, I believe it is Precise Engines. Good to know that they are a place of good service. Those places seem hard to come by these days.
