Finally went downstairs to look at the furnace. I couldn't just change the intake route as I have a furnace for upstairs and one for downstairs. Figured out which one was which and had a look. The previous owner installed a toggle switch on the side. Sure enough it was for the fan. Turned it on then went and found in and out. Removed the filter and found on the back side of the intake the previous owner had made a cutout with a cover that could be remove. Unscrewed and tilted it down so I am getting downstairs air in there. Overnight the house cooled down bigtime and after getting home today it is nice and cool again. Not sure how much is due to the furnace running vs. outside temps 10 degrees cooler. Either way I am nice a cool now.

One old codger i worked with took an old rad from a cat and plumbed it into his cold air suppy side above the furnace blower and hooked cold water in and out of it.. then proceeded to water his grass and flowers his, furnace blower cooled his house.. i thought that was pretty smart for an old fart lol. some old junk lying around made him poor man ac..

My grandpa did the same with copper tubing. He made a loop and put it in the furnace filter slot then hooked the garden hose in/out. Worked like the bees knees! Lol

we're on a water coop, and have a cistern in the basement. there is a bypass on the system where I can get water to come directly off the line or use the cistern and pressure pump. I've thought about doing something like that with a small ac condenser mounted on the intake side of the fan, just plumb it to run water from the line thru the condenser and slowly fill the cistern. guy would need a catch tray for the condensation and run a hose to reach the floor drain. would certainly be cheaper than adding central air
