A couple of nights ago I was helping a buddy load his 06 - 500 Polaris Sportsman into his 4 place trailer when the throttle stuck wide open on me. Just prior to that happening the quad was running rough and in blew the air intake line off the carb. We put it back on and the quad ran great. I was playing around while driving it up the ramp and gave it a whole bunch of throttle like I was going to catwalk the quad up the ramp(maybe not the smartest idea).........after my little 1 second burst of the throttle I realized I had a problem........the throttle was stuck wide open and I couldn't get it to stop, just about ran over my buddy and just about whacked my head on the front cabinets in the trailer. After bouncing the quad off of the front wall it was still pinned at full throttle. I shut it off at that point, we pulled it back from the wall, put it in neutral and then it idled just fine.

My buddy called a local dealer and they said they had heard of this happening to other polaris quads????? I don't really know what happened with the quad but thought I would post just to let people know what happened.

Yikes!! A ride you didn't bargain for. Did a cable get pinched while reinstalling the carb boot? I had that happen to my Grizzly once after I snagged the throttle cable on a branch but luckily I didn't have a wreck.

There goes that new quad smell.... ;)

Glad to hear you and your buddy made it out ok though. I know a couple people who are riding 07 500's and will have to relay the message - thanks for the info.

i don't think your throttle is working right. there is a mechanism in the throttle box that when the quad gets stuck at full throttle or the cable breaks it shuts off the quad. oviously it is not working right which means something could be wrong with the throttle assembly all together.

I was there, it was frickin scary, hit the front of the trailer hard enough to smash the right headlight and break the plastic all around it, pushed a dent about twice the size of your fist almost right through the outside skin of the trailer. If the front ramp hadn't been down......Thankfully Luc wasn't hurt too bad.

Well, that machine has two problems with the throttle. 1) Whatever it was that caused the throttle to stick, and 2) the ETC is not working.

Maybe the throttle cable got a fray inside the casing & getting hung up every once in a while.... Changed a few where they were like that, They would work fine, then hang up every once in a while.
