Okay, so now the 2015 Polaris 850 is at ~~12000 miles, taking several fuel pumps to get there, both Ebay and Polaris pumps, took another bowel movement last week and wouldn't restart (fuel pump again/always). My son took the pump part of a fuel pump for a '96 Chev Vortec 350 and made it work. Had to whittle down some of the plastic from the 850 pump to Frankenstein it together, and replaced a hose with the next size bigger, but he rode it all afternoon today and it ran like a raped ape. I don't pretend to be a mechanic and don't know if there is a downside to this, but the new pump was only about $60, and was, of course bigger than the Sportsman pump. If everything goes to hell I will report honestly that it did.
When the 850 quit, we were kind of busy, so I bought a new 2017 Sportsman 1000 over the phone and had my wife go pay for it and bring it home. I've ridden it 440 miles so far and mostly like it a lot. Rides better than the previous Sportsman(s), and will just about fly out from under you if you goose it. Mostly just ride it on the standard setting. The "performance" setting seems a little goosy, and the "work" setting seems better fitted for small children and older women. If you stand up when riding it on some rougher ground, the seat is a little wide and gives me "saddle sores" at about knee level. Knees will toughen up, so no problem. Had to adjust the handlebars right away. They were about the right height for a 5 footer.....which would be about right for where it was manufactured.
One more thing, my son brought home a Polaris Ace 900 demonstrator from the dealer today. He just rode it for a little bit and put it back in the trailer to return it. Sad he didn't like it at all. LOL. Told him I wasn't surprised. It just looks like something they missed the mark on.
