polaris 700 sportsman

i have a polaris 700 sportsman and had some carborator work done runs great down low elevation. but i took it up were i elk hunt and it ran rich i was woundering about the jetting on it. is there somthing i can do or need to take it back to polaris dealer

I'm not sure what carb you have but if it's a MIKUNI then it easy. Just unscrew the top where the throttle cable goes. It will be spring loaded so eas it off then remove the spring you will see a long needle pull it out, there will be a "C" clip on the needle remove it remember what notch it is in. To make it run leaner lower the clip on the needle and reassemble the carb. the plug should be a light brown or tan after you run it for a few km good luck

Jetting:
wide open throttle jetting.... change main jet
1/4-3/4 throttle needle clip position
idle to 1/4 throttle pilot jet and air screw

Main jet larger numbers are richer smaller numbers leaner

To change your needle clip position.
to make leaner you raise the clip (needle sits lower)
for richer drop the clip (needle sits higher)

your pilot jet is probably ok but you can adjust the air screw if needed
which way to turn air screw depends on what kind of carb it is.
