I want to hook up extra fuel tank so it just drains into main tank?
Had it hooked up that way years ago on older Ford with no problems.
Would just keep tank full until auxiliary ran out.
Will this work or cause problems on a 2012 Duramax?
Getting mixed opinions .
Thx in advance.

I have an aftermarket tank that replaces the factory tank between the rails. About 200 liters and nothing in the box. It is awesome. Well worth every cent.

Use a aux fuel selector and a timer switch Ross. My 08 would cause trouble if you leave it on.

Just in the process of putting in an auxillary tank in my2016 f350, just installed a murphy valve out of the tank and plumbed into my fill spout, hook the valve up to a spare up fitter switch, takes about 20-30 minutes to fill on the fly. Also teed the line and put in a manual ball valve just in case the valve fails. Had it on my 13 f350, no codes or issues. Holds 310 litres, good for 2000k

I will do the same with either a 12v valve or small cheap transfer pump.
Will just T into vent line that's between truck filler and tank.
Will probably go with just a valve . Simple.
Thanks guys

PS. This is a nice option as well but more $$

12v solenoid valve, plumb a small 3/8" line in from your aux tank(if gravity fed), have it on a switch in the cab. Fill er up while you drive with a flick of a switch.

I have this on my 12 dodge in combination with a titan tank however i simply removed filler from side of truck and tied filler and vent into aux tank
the first time i did it i messed up and ran my vent tube up to close to the filler on aux tank and it always wanted to kick out auto nozzles so i ended up moving it over 8" and now shes all good gauge works fine on truck tank and works normally once you reach the truck tank kinda nice with +/- 160 gallons on board sure makes the ol dually ride alot nicer as well

Did this on a company truck years ago, it was a 04 dmax. It would trip the engine light if you used it while driving down the road. The computer would think there's something wrong because it's not using fuel. And make sure you put the line into the right hose, my boss told me tie it into the vent line so I did. But it was a vent line that ran over the tank and up along the filler neck and vented into the filler area so I figure that was it. Nope it was the rear diff vent lol. Filled the diff up with diesel lol.

Had my 8.1 plumbed into fill neck with a 12v solenoid valve + 12v pump both on the same switch in the cab. Also had a small irritating buzzer on the switch so I wouldn't forget about it and over-fill.
If you decide to go this route, do yourself a favor and plumb in a tee & ball valve under the body with a threaded plug in case your pump or solenoid craps out, or at least pack a siphon hose with you. Ended up stripping out my washer fluid hoses to use as a siphon about 10 years ago on the way to slave lake when my valve crapped out & had no other way to get fuel from aux tank into the main tank.
