Look in the Avalanche Awareness forum for discussion on this beacon.

I have one and it works flawlessly with good range and excellent accuracy.

I have practiced with mine and works fine but I am going to try it with my
gps unit to see if that effects accuracy. I read a thread saying electonics
can effect up 10feet.

got one for this winter, never used it but read the instructions and watched the video that came with it to understand it better and shows how to do a search....Plus the scan mode is a nice feature, all you do is stand still and it does a 50m radius search telling you how many ppl are within that range and the scan mode searchs 5m,20m and 50m radius...

Storch,

I have a garmin gps and they do interfere up to 20'. You have turn it off and hide it from all beacons. Pieps and Garmin do not get along.

I don't think it automatically reverts to send if another avy comes down?

Anyone?

No, they don't reset, but they have configured the selector switch to make it easy to instantly switch back to 'send' from 'receive' if you are lucky enough to know what hit you...or is about to.

I have used the Pieps system for years, and have just bought two of the new Pieps DSP Avalanche Beacon/Transceiver units...from what I could see, they were rated at or near the top on some of the reviews, forums and blogs. So, with years of expertise, continuous updating of their technology, positive testimonials from users...seems to be a good choice. The important thing is to pull the trigger and get something, anything, before your next ride. Before you think about putting it off, or saving the cash, think about being buried, or worse, knowing your buddy is in there somewhere and you don't have the gear to save his life.

I ordered from Gear Express out of Utah for US$720 ($449/unit less a 20% discount of $90 each) plus $32 USPS delivery. (I avoid UPS as I hate getting ripped off by their 'brokerage' fees at the border.)

I imagine many people's opinions don't differ from mine and my riding group, but we refuse to ride with anybody without the proper gear. It's extremely ignorant for those to ride to the mountains without good gear. It goes both ways if somebody is caught in an avy. You buy your gear to help find others, but if those searching for you can't find you, imagine what they have to live with for the rest of their life digging out a cold, hard, blue body.

Similar to what I've said in another post. If you can't afford a good beacon, you can't afford to ride in the mountains.

Don't want to start an argument, but the odd time I see people in the cabins without any gear. I later see them in the hills. I don't say anything because it's their choice and should know better, but I don't want to be anywhere near them.
