Same here, it was a hand me down. Nothing better then the sound of steel leaf spring skis rattling and slapping over a bumpy trail. Lol

Man its good to see some great old units. Really glad I put up this thread..... There has been way to much bitkhing and such on the site lately, probably a sign of everyone getting impatient and wanting to get out a ride...

I don't have a picture but my first sled was a 1979 Polaris TXL. It had a tunnel cut, a 133" track, plastic paddles that were full width and ski skins. That sled was a blast, I wonder where it is now?

I do not have picture because it part of cave wall no first one was 68 snojet bought with hard earn paper money a whole $50.Now after 40 season later and 8 sleds i ride a 2010 backcounrty and love it as of right now i have still 4 of sleds still in yard just sold 1 now another one was sold long time ago but still come back to get repair again and again the other one was stripe for parts 78 TNT to build a terra jet the love snowmobiling

Wow. My second sled was an '85 Formula Plus, ran a 16x124" track and 2" paddles. Had to strip it to the bulkhead and weld all the cracks on the chassis, gusset the weak spots, rework the old PRS suspension completely to make it rideable! LOL!

i started has a kid with a jag 340 1976 wich i still have and probably have over 20 000km and never been rebuilt!!! bullet proof!!! then i officially bought my first sled in 99 mach z 800 triple... geez i felt a huge difference in power!!! and weight too!! i wish they build some lightweight summit tripple ...keep dreaming i guess!!

hahaha....awesome! I wish I had pics of mine, I did it up the same color scheme as an '89 mach 1 on the second rebuild. I figured "mx" meant motocross or something, nothing could be farther from reality. broke lots of stuff on that machine. did lots of work and upgrades to it, had it pretty much bulletproof at the end, sold it in '94 to a buddy and it's still bombing around the country.

Keep 'em coming!!! That Mach Z brings back some memories too... dq'ed out of a grass drag one season in stock class. Couldn't keep it straight. Shoulda backed down and lost because I was already 1st place on the first heat anyway and I could automatically go through. Oh well, ran the radar gun for the rest of the day on the announcer tower...

Great thread, love to see all the old iron and how much sleds and equipment have evolved. Mine was a 1976 Arctic Cat Pantera 5000 air cooled. Always had something go wrong, but got to learn patience and even a bit of wrenching...

I know at home in a box somewhere I have some actual pictures....but I googled these....


My first sled that my Dad had bought us was a 1971 Mercury 250....it even had reverse, you had to shut it off pull out a lever, turn the handle and push it back it in then re-start the motor....I had to taken a buddy with me has I couldnt start the thing my self...

Then he bought a 1975 Ski Doo 340 TNT....it was pretty fast, my brother inlaw wrapped it around a tree, then it came off the trailer on the way home, though he could have insurance cover it, they didnt....Dad was pretty pissed, the only good thing was for once it wasnt me....

The first sled I bought was a 1980 Yamaha ET340ED, I studded the track and changed the gearing, had a lot of good times with that little sled...my kid hit a cullvert with it about 8 years ago, and 4 years ago he pulled the motor out of it and stuffed it into a golf cart, custum home made exhaust, it's pretty loud but still runs great ...not bad for 32 year old motor....

Read the last sentence in the Yamaha ad.......LOL

haha cool thread. My first acuired sled was a 81 pantera 5000 , my first bought by me was a 88 formula mx.
