In sask the SSA recieved 1.2 million dollars from registration and to think this will all be gave back to the clubs to cover grooming costs.

obviously you guys have done a better job rallying support than us...

very cool.. kudos

Apparently in Alberta our OHV registration funds go into general govenment revenue and support the infastructure we are not allowed to operate our OHV's on...

I think that provincial trail pass fee is mandatory and paid at the time of registration....

i understand, but i don't need government telling me what to do. he may kick and it would be over. you can use that same arguement all over, no using bath tub, user may fall and become quad, no chewing gum , you may fall and choke, becoming brain dead due to lack of oxygen-- you can only eat 1500 calories a day or you will have increased levels of heart disease because of overweight. all people on welfare need to be sterilized so we don't have to support extra mouths.-- no left turns at intersections as it leads to more accidents, no driving at night you may hurt the deer. no riding sleds without body armour you get hurt, we all pay, i think you get my point. let natural selection keep thinning the herd.

just no more stupid government laws that they cannot enforce now.

I agree, no more stupid laws. Make it more like WCB, if the injuries were preventable e.g. was not wearing a helmet and you are a quad, then no governmental aid. But then that is too much to hope for

I agree with the enforcement aspect or the lack of enforcement. But some of the laws have benefited you and I by cutting the costs of dooing business.

I love it when my non-smoking tax dollars go towards paying for healthcare for someone who chose to smoke for 30 yrs and now has lung cancer......

Separate issue all together.... and not a very sound arguement considering from each pack of cigarettes sold 63-79% of the total sale price is tax.

I read an article (I'll have to try and find it again) that claimed that if the tax revenue from tobacco products was not present than the canadian healtcare system could not function and research & development would grind to a hault.

But anyway... back to the topic at hand

I would suggest that the more sent out to various different recipients the better, the only useless one is the one not sent at all...

Find your local MLA - Elections Alberta - Who is My MLA - Search MLA

Does it make sense to send it to the Environment Minister - Rob Renner?

Are there others this could be directed to? (Provincial or Federal?)

Environment Minister - Honourable Peter Kent - Minister@ec.gc.ca

Minister of Service Alberta (Registries) - Honourable Heather Klimchuk - edmonton.glenora@assembly.ab.ca

My wife indicated that the word document might not be accessible to everyone so below is the letter posted.... hell even copy and paste it into an email and send it off that way...

To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing to you as an average Canadian who like many others enjoys the many outdoor activities this great country has to offer in all seasons. I am one of many citizens who choose to live and play outside the growing urban centres and feel that my basic rights of access to public lands is being taken away piece by piece. Snowmobiling is a truly Canadian form of recreation as it originated from our own society as a form of winter transportation which now has now grown into a widely practiced pastime and multi-billion dollar industry. ATV’s allow users to access to public lands otherwise out of reach. I have not researched the numbers but common sense tells me I am not alone in my belief, OHV dealerships, parts providers and outdoor suppliers are flourishing. Users supply small towns throughout the country with much needed economic stimulation. Many Canadians spend their weekends camping, ATV-ing, sledding, boating, biking, hiking, fishing and a magnitude of other activities which this great country of ours has to offer.
I challenge our political representatives to acknowledge the rights and liberties of the “average Canadian outdoors enthusiasts” and provide further and increased funding to the Trans Canada trail and others like it and continue to build multiuse infrastructure for Canadian families to enjoy.
To allow the funds collected for OHV registrations to be used to be put back into promotion and further advocacy of their use and safety.
To increase funding to non profit provincial associations who represent OHV users and have achieved great things with little funding, despite the sea of red tape that pollutes the current bureaucratic landscape.

I want a representative who will promote my right to lifestyle and recreation with the same vigour and tenacity as the many minority groups who vocally demand their rights be met. Myself and many of my peers are far too busy working long schedules and trying to enjoy our leisure time to mount public protests to protect our interests, so this is our chosen medium. I challenge you to recognize the silent majority who for years have been overshadowed by the vocal minorities.

Thank you,

Good morning,

Below is a letter I have drawn up to indicate my frustrations with what to me, as well as many of my peers, is a key issue needing attention on a local, provincial and federal levels. The OHV community although and frustratingly silent represents a large portion of the voting public. We are a "special interest" group with membership ranging from ages 5-85, incomes from barely getting by to well to do (mostly upper middle class) and between work and play unfortunately don't have the time to organize vocal public displays of protest which other groups utilize to garner attention. I have provided the letter below to my peers in OHV & Snowmobile groups & clubs in hopes that we can put together a strong showing and bring much needed attention to our cause.

Sent to Mr. George VanderBurg along with my letter... Please do not allow him to dismiss this due to lack of interest

More on the helmet debate & ATV safety in general.. intersting info including

-Only Alberta and the Yukon have no plans for ATV helmet laws. By the end of this year, B.C. will require off-road vehicle riders to wear helmets on Crown land, including road rights of way. Every other Canadian jurisdiction already has mandatory ATV helmet laws.

And ATVs are more popular in Alberta than anywhere else except Quebec. In 2008, Albertans were responsible for about 22% of all new ATV sales in Canada (almost 18,000 units).

This is Federal monies! Send the letter to your MP.

I have sent it to the MLA also just to get his attention on the issue.

I say send it to anyone and everyone....

when one rep says to another "hey I've been getting letters from the OHV community" I want the other to reply "hey me too" and when they speak with provincial & federal counterparts I want them to say "me too"....

the numbers are huge, the economic spin-off is huge, yet we are too quiet and apathetic...

here is a list of the 305 MP's

Just a note. The Trans Canada trail is 80% non-motorized. They dont need anymore funding. Funding should be allocated for trail development motorized and non-motorized.

Ian good going on this. Federally and provincially. Need to start with your MLA. ASA has a list of questions to ask on their website.

I commend the effort that being said I have about as much faith in the Canadian Govt as I doo in that snowball makin it back from hell. The less the Govt has to doo with sledding the better off we will be. I wish they had a no confidence box on the ballots it would better reflect the best choice come vote day. Like I said before Lawyers and politicians should be used for fill where poor trail conditions are present. IMHO :d:beer:
