I was down in the Fish Creek area or Maclean Creek FLUZ on Saturday, June 5th and on my way in a passed a young couple in tent with a rather messy campsite. On my way out, the couple was gone so was the tent, but the mess was left behind - garbage, bottles, cans, blanket, burning campfire complete with heaped garbage in the fire.

Several kms further down the road was an abandoned camp with a raging abandoned campfire.

This is just wrong:nono:. If we want to keep using these areas, we need to respect them. I sure hope nobody on this site is abusive to our areas.

next time take down a license plate # and report the clowns, maybe a steep fine or two will get the message out. not always the young people but you learn this behavior from your parents. if these clowns thought someone was recording plate #'s they would not be doing this crap.

they have no respect for themselves or for others.

I agree. If they see you writing down their plate #, chances are they will abide by the rules. I personally would love to chase them down, and make it so they don't have the ability to chew solid food, let alone leave their sh!t for someone else to deal with. Hopefully, these douchebags will someday grow up and learn some respect.

beatings will help, making them clean up all areas of the park may get the message out. or a $5000 fine may be better.
just can't understand some peoples thought process, just the same as throwing garbage in road allowances, trying to save $10.

If I had known they were going to leave the junk, I would have got a plate, but it was Saturday and they didn't seem like they were going to leave. Further, if I started taking plates, I would have been there a while as there were plenty of campers - mostly good ones I hope.

We were just out in Vega a couple weekends ago and found the trash was actually pretty good after a long weekend (no trash is good trash but we expected way worse). Then we went to go find sme deadfall.......wow.... We stumlbe upon what must have been the community #2 station. They crapped in ziplock bags and threw it in a pile. WTF is wrong with people? We have the simple rule pack out what you pack in. Another frustrating part was there is an outhouse about 50 ft away.

We were also out on Saturday and did not find any trash out there.... I must say this year has been the best I have seen in alot of years for mess after the long weekend. I have gone on clean ups for years with the CJA to try to keep our areas open.

So did you help clean up the mess that they left or just shake your head and keep on going?

We were out in McLean the day after the long weekend and were surprised that the area wasn't trashed. There was a bus load of Park's Canada people in the staging area. Not sure if they had been doing some clean up or not. It was odd to see them there.

Never the less, there are curtious and responsible people, and there are those who just don't know any better (putting it nicely as my really thoughts on those people wouldn't be anything but 3 and 4 letter words)

Taking license plate numbers will do nothing, calling and reporting them will do nothing either even if you have a description and license plate number. Its all hear say as far as the law is concerned. Been there and done it. They might get a phone call if they have more than one call about them.

People like this need to be reminded either politely or with a firm hand that its not acceptable. Some people will act accordingly and tell others to clean up their mess, some won't and other's will clean up after other people even when its not their's. Usually you can tell in the staging area's with the parking lot hero's who are the ones who would maybe leave a mess. Stereotyping maybe, but when they are more concerned about how many beer they can fit in their packs than wearing a helment, it generally shows how many brain cell's are firing.

Here's what I do...take a camera and drive around the sites and take pictures of the people, their rigs, license numbers..then if they leave a mess post the pictures on a site (such as this) for the world to see..if we all did it it would help..May long I rode around with my helmet cam on and made sure everyone could see..seemed to make a difference! Had one guy stop in front of our camp, he was putting his sewer cap back on..I said "you didn't dump your sewer on the cutline did you??" Uhh, no, I had left it off and could hear it banging so I stopped to put it back on" Yea, right! A$$holles dump their sewers coming out of the bush, along the side of the trail..

So do you have proof that your statements in the last two sentences are factual? I quad with some people that wear helmets, and some that do not. I ride with people that bring along some beer, and some that do not. NONE OF THEM leave garbage anywhere. I could easily make the statement that people that insist on wearing helmets and don't drink beer are the worst offenders when it comes to leaving garbage in the bush, and it would be no more ridiculous than your statements as I would have no proof. Your "brain cell" comment shows that you seem to somehow think you are better or smarter than riders that don't wear helmets or have a drink or two. Obviously you are entitled to your opinion, but it's simply an opinion and not fact and is a self-righteous comment to say the least.

Was speaking to my brother in Calgary who was out riding Maclean Creek the other day with his kids.
He commented on the amount of trash and how many riders don't slow down for slower peeps on the trail.
Used to 4x4 there many years ago when it wasn't well know.
Hopefully they don't shut it down.

I said, maybe I am stereotyping in my statement, depending on the extent of riding, I believe there should be more importance placed on wearing a helment (even though its not the law in AB) than packing beer around (is it even allowed?) Am I being the better or smarter person?

Can you define your interpetation of better or smarter? I do believe I am above average of course! :p sense the humour? Personally, just like with sledding, I carry an opinion that any alcohol and drugs are better left for the right place and right time, not while riding. If people want to enjoy a cold bevy while out for the day, have at it, I choose not to ride with people who want to consume more than that. Its my choice.

So to clarify, yes, anyone can leave garbage on the trails, in the staging areas or along the road. It would be nice if they didn't and its great the people you ride with don't trash the riding areas. Any group can have thier bad apples. Just like when I stop on the trails in winter to pick up parts of blown belts that people discard, sometimes we have to clean up after people to keep our own riding areas safe.

I don't disagree with your statements in this post, I think the key words are "opinion", "choice" and "any group can have their bad apples". I think there is no excuse for anyone leaving garbage in the bush period.

So I should have cleaned up their mess? I'm part of the problem because I left it?? I was on a bike - I didn't have room for all the junk - let alone packing the dash from a car out.

My reason for writing the thread was to gauge the viewpoints of others who visit this forum. There's a good chance that many of these people who don't take care of our riding areas actually visit this forum for information. So my message to them is clear - clean up your act or we will all lose access privileges.
