so turns out you read right and this passenger does have a bit of a nasty past with his profession and gambling as well. Either way, still does not excuse United's handling of this situation. I have a funny feeling he is going to win the jack pot on this one.

not anything to do with how he was treated by United, but I read an article today about the doctor. apparently he was barred from practicing medicine for a decade for trading meds for BJ's...from a dude.

Funny how they people dig up his past. I am usually on the side of law enforcement (2 cops on the plane) but not this time. It could have easily been me or anyone here not willing to give up their seat.

100% agree! His past is irrelevant and like you said this could be easily me and when I dig my heals in I can be a bit stubborn according to my wife :cool:

Kind of wonder if this is a distraction to keep the media away from some other big scandal or world issue.
Using United in their right hand to keep every busy and so we dont see what they are doing with their left hand.

I guess I get to be the devils advocate here. Regardless of the reasons he was asked to leave the plane (and I agree those reasons were BS) he was asked politely to leave the plane many times. He doesn't own the plane. It was determined by the owners of the plane that he needed to leave. He refused. He was ordered to leave by the proper authorities and he again refused. So he was then forcibly removed.
If someone entered your place of business and then refused to leave after repeated requests, what would you do? You'd call the cops and they'd try to escort him out. If he refused again, they'd remove him by force.
Should united airlines done things differently? You bet. We all feel for the guy because we all hate being treated like crap by the airlines. And it doesn't matter which airline you chose, they're all intolerable, just some are marginally less intolerable than others.
Air travel sucks, and this is gonna make it worse. Now every dickhead with an attitude is gonna think if they cause a scene on an airplane they're gonna be able to cash in on a lawsuit. Imagine all the delayed flights coming because some passenger decides he doesn't need to follow instructions.

Regardless though, its still their policy. How he reacted to it was his choice. Just to be clear......I dont agree with their policy at all. But bottom line, it is their company and they get to choose how to run it...good or bad. He was politely asked to leave many times. It was his choice to handle the situation the way he did.

So you go to the Oilers game first playoff game in 11 years. Get your beers and the puck is ready to drop and they ask you to leave because the janitor needs a seat. You say sure no problem? Your house your rules. BS you give your seat up without hestitation. That's your devils advocate.

Not the same at all. A better analogy would be you order a set of tires off of costco.ca. You book an appointment for April 15th to get them put on. On April 15th you show up and they say Im sorry but we overbooked. Can we put your tires on tomorrow? We will give you $500 dollars back and put you up in a hotel if you travelled in from out of town.

So its your choice whether you take them up on their offer, and then never shop there again because their corporate policy isnt worth the inconvenience that their price savings offer.......or you could refuse to leave until they have to call the cops. Again.....you can disagree with the company policy and choose not to patronize that business anymore.....but it is completely YOUR choice to escalate the situation.

I dont miss my vacation. Its just slightly delayed. And then I choose to not book with them on my next vacation.

They didnt knock anyone out. He refused to leave to the point that security had to be called. They used as much force as they had to to remove him. Again.....not saying I agree with their policy. People just need to be more accountable for the choices they make.

United air had two first class seats left leaving Huston to Nicaragua. I treated my self and wife, they had no problem taking my money...I guess I should be glad they didn't kick my a$$ off right after I paid.
I'm so looking forward to squishing myself back into the cheap seats on the way home...
airlines, never a dull moment. Greedy pigs, lets not forget air Canada's idea of helping out the fort mac people...almost as bad as getting beaten.

Your scenario is close but it's more like this. You book your tires, they put your truck on the hoist, roll out your new tires and at the last second the guy that picks up the oil rags at the end of day says he wants your tires. Even though that guy could probably get his tires on after work but no we wants your tires on right now. The hoist beside your truck is sitting empty but your truck comes down and you miss your sled trip, or maybe your daughters first birthday or maybe a relatives funeral. They don't know why you need your tires and don't give a sh!t when you get your tires.

Accountablity yes, airlines need to be accountable. If you kick your customers off the plane to make way for your employees soon there will be no need for employees will there? I think the point rzr and wild 1 are making is its flat out wrong to treat people this way...paying customers.
Yes perhaps the man was a little over dramatic but be sure I'd be difficult to. This doesn't just set back your vacation it sets a chain reaction in place that most people can commit too. Planing and timing is everything, if your single floating around or have no set schedule then fine, but there could be thousands of dollars involved in missing a flight.
not sure what this man (doctor) mission was but say you were scheduled for surgery that next day and he was a no show? Anyhow back to my vacation.
