Is it the original battery, do you keep it on a maintainer over the winter?. Have you any accessories that were connected directly to the battery?.

Try and isolate the problem, first by eliminating the battery.

The Can-Ams actually put out 400watts about a 75 more than our BF750. The problem is that the ECU monitors the voltage of the Battery, so when it drops beneath 12 during high demand it goes into "Limp Mode".
He said he put in a new batt...problem still persists. I don't have any answers...other than to get the output of the charging system checked.

Around here the dealers tend to throw the Battery on a rapid charge instead of a low amperage charge which takes longer. if its a AGM battery and the Gel is not allowed soak in properly you will still have problems if not prepared properly.

hmmm my battery was dead the other day so I boosted it and went for 20 minute ride turn off all good, go for 30 more minutes turn off dead,, need another boost but no limp mode?? but kinda bummed battery done....

mines 07 800 on original battery and I have never charged it



how much for new battery,, wheres the deals at?

Just because it's dead doesn't mean it needs to be replaced. Boosting a battery isn't the same as charging it properly.

Not on an outlander but my sportsman ALWAYS turned over good......now I installed a winch on it this summer and left it sit while I was in the fields for harvest and now its dead as hell!!! kinda pisses me off cause I thought thats why I hooked it into a switched power source!

If you aren't using the winch it isn't killing your battery. It doesn't matter if you are connected to switched power or not.

I slow charged a new battery and disconnected the winch for two days no problem. i'll see how long it will last. Thanks everyone for all the help:)

After a few days of i'm back to the old drawing board my bike has low battery. What causes the battery to drain when the bike is just sitting. Any answers or solutions will be appreciated.:mad:

i have a outlander 07 650xt and i am getting low battery brought new one charged it and after sitting for 2 days i went to start it up i got low battery. does anyone have any suggestion on what could cause my battery to drain down. I am new to this fourm if i am out of line please forgive me. Thanks for your help.
Welcome to the site. I would make sure the stator is working and replace it if neccesary. Also I would check the connections where the battery connects to the solenoid, (behind the removeable plastic piece). If there is any mud or debris on the connections it will draw through there. Also, it may cause your starter to stay on while the quad is running, which can drain your battery. If that is not the problem, I would start to look for a bad ground or something that can cause a battery draw. Good luck snakeman.

Almost all Brp quads before powersteering were that way. Now the new ones have bigger stators.

Hi I have a 2005 outlander 400 stuck in limp mode. I hear something about doing some sequence with the override button but have not figured it out yet. Any help would be great

you can not clear limp mode if it is actually made your bike operate at a slow pace and put it in limp... only dealer can do that....

now limp mode can be set off by low battery, by getting water in a connection, by getting spark plug wires wet .. small things that set off limp mode like this ... resets itself when you shut bike off and then wait till it powers down and then restart and limp is gone... still will throw a code but limp home will be gone... and things are normal again..

but like I said, if bike throws the limp home and bike actually goes into a limp mode by cutting most the power ... then only dealer can clear it....

if its not in limp and cant clear light and message... then something else is wrong... dealer is the only way then....


now this is the way it is since I owned a can-am but that is 2007 up... not sure if 2005 is the same.... im thinking it is..but not sure...

If your looking for a current drain to the battery, hook up a multimeter (in series, in current mode) on one of the posts to your battery, and look for an current value in amps, or milli amps, once that is established start pulling fuses , my first guess would be the winch solonoid, simply disconnect one leg on the winch solonoid and see if you still have a current draw on your meter..... etc

Went to Battery World in EDM and bought a great "Virgin Lead" Battery for my Outlander. Had to clean up the contacts and bend the stock battery cable contacts flat so they made good contact to the battery. Winching will kill the battery but a good battery should bounce back once you ride for a while. Always shut the kill switch off when not using the quad. Battery will stay charged.
