So I ripped into the wifes pro last night to change out the front torque (scissor) arm in the skid. I had been warned about the bolts spinning in the sleeve and thankfully the process I was advised to follow worked. Removal of the damaged part was pretty simple for a mechanically retarded individual such as myself.

Removed the front shock bolt, removed the footwell bolts leaving the top disconnected. Then I removed the rear shock bolt and the shock rod bolt and finally the long shaft bolt - Old part removed slick as snot.....

Put the new torque arm in and started with the upper front shock bolt and the footwell bolts because they are the most difficult to access (upper part of the skid) and actually went together quite easily.

Now the struggle begins

I can't get the skid lined up to install the long shaft bolt on the bottom. I'm able to bolt up the shock and shock rod no problem but cant get the shaft bolt lined up. I've tried raising the sled, lowering the sled, using ratchet straps to try and winch it into alignment and ultimately spent 2 hours sweating, cursing and busting open a shin from kicking the stupid machine.

All I can figure now is to remove the footwell bolts and put the lower shaft bolt in first but my fear then is I will never get the upper footwell bolts to line up, they are much trickier and come in from both sides as opposed to what should be a simple long bolt install.

Am I missing something? is there a trick to this? tourque arm.jpg

did you tighten the upper bolts up all the way? if so loosen them off and then try to get it to line up, your process sounds like you're on the right path, it should like up fairly easily from there...... do not do up the shock until you're done the long bolt.

I can easily undo the shock bolt, but I need to be careful with the shock rod, when I lifted the tunnel that SOB fell through one of the track holes and it was a B!tch to get back out. I'll try loosening those footwell bolts and see how she goes... I was flying solo last night too, might get the wife to come out and give me a hand tonight....

I appreciate the offer and if I can't get it back together tonight I may reach out for assistance.... I need this thing on the trailer headed to MM20 Friday morning. I should have had it done a long time ago but I got lazy....

OK so the footwell bolts should be the last to go in then because they are what attaches the skid to the chasis.... That sucks because they were much easier to install with the sled sitting upright and I could wrench on both sides at the same time.

Oh well it is what it is

I think this is the way to go because I saw a few times in a local Fernie shop everytime a pro/axys was in for a once going over the sled was on its side and the skid was out.
fully assemble the skid. lay sled on its side. install in chassis.
