Open window looking into the mag?

Hi guys I'm doing some engine work on my Pro and noticed there is a small window looking into the mag from the top of the housing. Looks like it might have been covered with heat tape at one time but not anymore. Should this be open?

Covered from the factory after setting the timing. It wouldn't hurt anything if you cover it up again. I don't think the little bit of moisture that gets in would hurt anything but why not cover it up again.
