I'm going to be making a deal on a pair of old ass Skidoo Sleds, and wanted to do a lien search. The registry tells me that they need a 17 digit vin, as the standard Vin was 17 digits from 1977. I know this is the case for autos, but, BOTH sleds, have unaltered 9 Digit vins, which the registry won't search..are they just on glue?

One is a Jun1997 MXZ, and the other, a Nov1996 MXZ

They are correct that road vehicles have had 17 digit VIN since 1981, but you might be looking at a stamping number, sometimes the VIN has been obscured by years of boots rubbing the plate or decal. If the previous owner had them registered, get copies of those documents so you can show it to the registry agent. Makes life much easier!

There is no point searching for liens on units that old now anyway. Liens have to be re-registered, and it costs money to do so.
