The new 2011+ duramaxes running urea dont have fuel dilution problems anymore. That was on the LMM (07.5-10) using raw diesel fuel in the dpf.

Did the duramaxes ever have fuel dilution issues? I was under the understanding that all d maxes inject fuel in the exhaust not cylinder dosing like ford and dodge

About 5 years ago at work we have moved are North American equipment fleet from, 250 hours to 500 hours, locally for the past year we have gone to 1000 hour servicing on our Industrial sites, so far no problems....

Good information from IHR above......I've had 7 or 8 new trucks over the last 18 years....all GM's 5.3L, 6.0L & now 6.2L....I change oil on all of them based on the oil life monitor. I kept them till 150 -200, 000 km...and start over ......no issues in any of them.
I've kept one of my old trucks as a "beater"....creeping up on 300,000 km....no engine issues what so ever.....

I think those that say you gotta change at 3000 or 5000k are out of touch. Oil & engine technology has changed.

Even the farm industry is approving oil change intervals of 500 hours in their diesel engines..........compare that kind of hours to a truck....500 hours times average 30Km/h? = 15,000 km.....

Well you will, this is what i do, setup industries with equiptment and fleets on maintinance plans. Plus doit for them on contract basis. I have a fleet of service vehicles specificaly setup for it.
I've ran in to this 1000hr service interval.....hahaha....them outfits love giving us lots of engines. tranmission ect, ect jobs. Till we take over their services from their maintinance department. They quickly find out it wasn't a very good plan they had.

500hrs is common, 250hrs in extreme condition's. A 1000hrs is asking for trouble.

We have 50 million $ worth of equipment in Canada, we do oil sampling on all heavy equipment, the so far year long experiment, has been on gensets, light towers, mid sized loaders and all of them are running double shifts, most 7 days a week, so they run up the hours rappidly, we have light towers with over 20,000 hours and the samples are coming back good....(knock on wood) we havent lost one motor yet. Other than a cople of water pumps on the JD motors in Gensets, so in that enviorment it's working....

Trucks at work our PM program flags them at 5,000, .......Now lets talk about all the Ford 5.4 motors , down with the camshaft phaser variable timing proplem,we have six of them in Edmonton alone 18 company wide out of a mixed manufacture fleet 800 trucks....we are now going to start a program of dumping the 2005 - 2008 to start with....

If you own one and it starts to tick like the old stuck lifter sound, get someone you trust to inspect it ASAP...... The Final Repair Guide to 5.4 Cam Phaser Tick/Knock Sound - Ford F150 Forum - Community of Ford Truck Fans heres a good idea of the problem and one guys (Fords replace the motor)

Oil nowadays is way better than the old stuff we run chevron 15w40 in all our big tridrives and I use shell 0-40 synthetic in all our off road stuff. We have had tridrives upwards of 500hrs and the off road stuff over 1000 in the winter and no oil related engine issues
I say Go long or go home
Funny thing I find is the ford manual says you can go 12000 between oil changes but dealer says you need to change every 8 or warranty is voided. Be nice if they would meet in the middle at 10 000 so easy to remember

I guess then i will need to advise my customer's that we have been doing this wrong all these year's. Tolko Forest product, Alkan Aluminum, Tech Cominco mining, just to name a few.
Just as well lay off the crew and sell the service truck's. 30yrs in the trade and we're idiots. Got to go on S and M to get it right, holy. Just as well, it was easier when i was the servise advisor for Finning.

But if u look there is hard service and regular as time change intervals.

In Canada no matter what we are classified as hard service cause of temp swings and cold temps.

That's y its 8000 km and not 12000

You guys should whip your dicks on the table and measure them.

Don't think he called you an idiot, looked to me like he stated what they do in his company.Just cause it's different than what you guys are doing doesn't make either one of you wrong IMO.Mining ,logging, verses city driving is apples/oranges.
