Actually one of my first jobs after I got kicked out of the house when I was 16 was as a mechanic for a small logging outfit in Hinton. I changed all the tires and completly rebuilt the brakes on all three of the trucks they had at the time and these were offroad trucks with planetaries not the highway models. The owner would come out once every couple of hours to make sure I was still alive and not screwing up but he never helped nor did I ask him, I wanted all the hours I could get.

nice, well im geussing nice pay but not nice work. lol i want to try something like that but my parents are usually a little protective, which makes me laugh they let me screw around and make huge pulls in the mountains but dont let me do some other things. but thats how the world goes i geuss. once schools over for me im probably going to do military college, then take full time engineering or something, so when i want out of the military i will have a usefull trade :) lol i doubt it will go that perfectly though.

Actually I loved doing that kinda thing, I ended up working on the rigs and made a pretty good career of it over the years. Oddly enough another of the things I did when I was 17 was to attempt to join the army, at that time they weren't taking many recruits and you basically needed some college education to even be considered. I have a bunch of freinds who did make it in and they all ended up with the adventure of a lifetime, some are still in the military. Sounds like you have a pretty good working idea of what you want, stick with it and you'll go places.

What area of Victoria do you live in????.....There are at least 20 Mcdonalds in the Victoria area, they will hire teenagers as long as you are in school. They are one of the better places to work at for teenagers as they work around your schooling and sports activities.

Joey, I have a grandson your age and it is funny reading your posts. So many of the younger generation or kids your age seem to think......it's all about me and right now!

Quit your whining, help out at home, put a smile on your face, and get that part-time job. Life is too short to sit and pout man......make a plan and get on with life, eh

Did you even think about the post and the kid that wanted the helmet? I'll bet it went in one ear and out the other just as fast as you type!! Slow your brain down and make a plan to accomplish your dreams. They are attainable and realistic but you gotta have some action and get going.

How much would you make at $10/hour while on S&M? Transfer those hours to Timmy's, MacDonald's, CT, a Yami dealer.....get my drift?:d:d:d

there are some kids on here you could take some pointers from joey, guys that have worked hard devoted they're money to the sport and have earned/appreciate what they have much more than you can understand having it handed to you. so for someone who says how passionate you are, you sure arent doing all you can to get yourself on the hills....

Alright... for once I have to let the sensible job related part of me out...

For all you kids that are looking for your first jobs BE CAREFUL, no job is worth an arm a leg or your life. The labour laws will not allow a worker under 16 to take part in any "risky work related activities" any employer should be aware of this and make sure that thier younger workers are kept safe and properly trained. Unfortunately most employers (especially private & small employers) are not aware of the implications of a young worker incident/accident in the workplace.

25 years or under is the commonly accepted definition of "young worker"

When you are applying for a job, it is as much about them applying to hire you as it is about you applying to work for them.

ASK QUESTIONS !!!!!!!

Hazards, training, mentoring ect... There are no stupid questions and if it doesn't feel right it probably is not... No paycheque is worth your life...

Keep that in mind...

Ahh the age where all elders have there opinion of how a kid should go about his buisness!! Being young enough to remember 16 but old enough to earn my way I can say this. Get a job buy your sled and show your old man you can keep your nose clean so he will "Trust" you enough to take his truck to the mountains. Nothing shows more iniciative than saving cash and paying your own way for a trip. Sledding is expensive but its a blast have fun.
