'10 models now have a snap ring infront of the bolt. It must be Yamaha's way of preventing the head of the bolt from flying around the chain case once it breaks.
Noticed this as well on my '10. If the bolt breaks it won't make its way into the chaincase. The end of the shaft sits in a bearing that is sealed in the cover. The snap ring should stop it from possibly wrecking the cover though.
