I don't know what all the big deal is about, I have Nuance 3D spacial surround fronts(no amps in them just a tweeter a mid and 2 8" woofers), and the center and 2 surrounds to go with. Also added a cheap bottom end Yamaha subwoofer(2 years ago) and running it all on a 7.1 channel 700watt Yamaha amp(upgraded from the original techniques 500W 5.1 channel amp I bought with the nuance speaker in 1995) and it sounds just as good as some of the higher end brands. Yes they are not the worlds best speakers but after buying them in 1995 I have yet to have any problems to this day and still get exc. quality sound from them. I have heard other systems that people have paid up to 10g's+ and there is not that much of a difference in sound quality to justify the price difference. I do not deny that International Stereo was a rip off joint as I probably paid more for them than I should have but still paid way less than others that I know and got the same sound quality. As for all the guys that say International Stereo sold nothing but garbage, last I checked, Pioneer, Alpine, Phoenix Gold, JVC, JBL and many other brands are still considered some of the better brands and they were all sold there.

I have to agree, i had 4 spacial T1's (about a 4' high tower) and the spacial center, i have never had an issue, ran like the day i bought them right up until i sold them, actually miss them, nice clear sound, was even comparable to a friends full energy system.......international stereo was a hack of a company though and ended up giving the product a bad name, due to lack of service. also for those who dont know international stereo's demise came due to them allowing cred to ANYONE, they weren't doing any checks at all, all they did was walk in the back room and come out to say you were approved.
ended up wrecking a lot of people credit. and lead to an investigation of the company and eventually the shut down, then they re-opened under a new name, and hit the same problems again

Smoke and mirrors guys....If you go through their discography chances are you have one... All you have to do is set your speakers in an equilateral triangle and sounds via "Q Sound" will appear to be all around you...
A good system can accomplish pinpoint imaging, width and depth of sound stage with simply good mastering

VERY IMPORTANT UNDER NO CIRCUMSANCES BI-AMP THESE SPEAKERS WITHOUT CONFIRMING THE BINDING POSTS ARE LEADING TO SEPARATE SECTIONS OF THE XOVER AND NOT JUMPED TOGETHER,,,,,THIS WILL FRY YOUR AMPS...

International Stereo charged with unfair business practices

Edmonton...International Stereo Centre Ltd. faces 17 charges under the province's Fair Trading Act for unfair business practices in its dealings with Alberta consumers.

The charges fall under nine sections of the Fair Trading Act, including unreasonably deceiving or misleading a consumer, stating a transaction involves rights or remedies that are different from the fact and entering into contracts when the seller knew or ought to have known the consumer was not reasonably able to pay for the goods.

The Alberta government laid the charges after investigating allegations the company had entered into transactions with consumers who could not reasonably afford to pay the full price for the goods offered. This resulted in an expanded investigation into other areas of alleged misconduct. Since 2003, the government has received 49 consumer complaints involving the company from across Alberta and other areas.

International Stereo's first provincial court appearance is scheduled for September 29, 2004 in Edmonton.

Consumers who have purchased a product from International Stereo and have concerns about the sale are advised to contact Government Services' Consumer Information Centre toll-free at 1-877-427-4088.

Consumers have the right under the Fair Trading Act to fair treatment before, during and after any transaction with a business for a product or service. Information on Albertans' consumer rights and remedies under the Fair Trading Act are outlined in Government Services' tipsheets, available at www.gov.ab.ca/gs.

The Fair Trading Act's penalty provisions include fines of up to $100,000 or up to three times the amount obtained by the offence and/or up to two years in prison upon conviction.

For what it's worth, I can verify that Nuance speakers were little more than a sales tactic. While International could make a profit at a coupe hundred bucks a set, they would list them for $2000 - $3000 a set back in the day. They weren't horrible speakers as far as sound quality was concerned (definitely not the greatest either) but were so inefficient that they could only made to perform half decent with a high current amp. ...that's where they'd get you. If you bundled the speakers with a home theater system, they'd basically give the speakers away for free and make a killing on the rest of the equipment, leaving the customer thinking they got away with the deal of a century. The sad part is that some people paid full price for the entire ball of wax! I've seen official International Stereo documents explaining their scripted sales tactics for making these outrageous sales including specific tactics for belittling the unconvinced consumer into believing they just don't have "the ear" for it.

Btw, they're not the only major store that used speakers to sell entire packages. However, I know of none that were as ruthless as International.

Frigg'n spare me the sob story about a dead father. The only good thief is a dead one.
