Not going into reverse

So last couple rides my 850 started having issues going into reverse. Hit the reverse button and she just dies. Usually takes a few tries to get it to work. Doesn't happen every time though. Anyone see this on an 850 yet? My first thought is top end but haven't had a chance to test it yet.

I would say check your compression, had a friends 13’ do the same as well as my 16’ doo and it was top end on both

I had an 07 do same.

Deflection is snug but good. Doesn't idle any different. I have my suspicions but not able to check it for a few days yet

The throttle cable slack can cause this if it is too tight.

If the trigger coil gap from the flywheel isn't correct it can cause this as well. In this case the ECU doesn't receive a strong enough pulse from the pickup to trigger the spark at the correct time to initiate reverse rotation.

Unfortunately this is one of the most time consuming items to check, so I'd exhaust all other options first.

I'll check that but I haven't adjusted it in a while and this has been the last 2 rides.

Spray everthing down with WD 40.

That sheet works for everthing......LOL.

Throttle position sensor is my guess...

ok sounds good, I’m very curious to hear your compression #s

Finally got around to a compression test. 108 on each side with a known low reading tester. This on a 3000 km motor that hasn't had an easy life, no complaints about that. I'll play with the throttle cable adjustment on the next ride and see if that makes a difference
