Broken ring? I don't see a lot of shiny aluminum in the centre of the head that detonation would cause.

Hard to tell but looks like the piston is melted above the ring landing.Could be broken piston as well. Need a clearer pic.

Yep, looks to me like some exhaust port portion of the piston is gone, seen that a couple times when it was too lean. I would suspect air leak, too lean of jetting or bad fuel. Exact same piston here, about 2/3's down the page -

I don't have the jug off yet. Should get at it this afternoon. So far it looks like a broken ring caused all the damage on the top of the piston and head. Will post better pics when i get it apart.
