Hey, anyone have an idea of a good riding spot in northern AB. Looking to do some riding outside of yellowknife.

I was up there back in Feburary, seemed pretty flat to me. But saw alot of sleds riding up along hwy 1, just watch out for the bisons.

Headed up there for xmas with my bro. Gonna be a good way to break in the new sled and work out the bugs before I head to the mountains.
Tons of trails and lots of snow already. Should be fun.

yup you can ride for a week straight and not hit the same trail twice

Bout an hour south of High Level you get in to a higher elevation, theres a old lodge, tower and lake there. Just from driving it looks awesome, usualy realy good snow. Even at the boarder at indian cabins there is lots more bush than in Hay River, lots of pipelines to run and some lakes to the west.Is there a winter road to the north of YK?, the richarson mtns looked good, they are 4 hours or so south of Inuvik.

that's Twin Lakes Lodge, I think it is still open. We used to rent one of the cabins and ride all weekend down cutlines and powerlines. The little bit of elevation there sure translates into a LOT more snow. Sweet to come back to the cabin and hit the restaurant for a hot meal.

What are the directions there from Paddle? Can't find anything on the web when I searched for Twin Lakes Lodge.

doubt they are online at all, the peeps that run it are old school. from Manning it is 50 miles north, the lodge is at the top of what we call 100 mile hill. it's 100 miles north of Grimshaw, which is Mile Zero on the Mackenzie Highway. not sure of the exact mileage from Paddle, but if you're heading south from there you will go thru Keg River, 80km zone, and it's about 20 miles south of that. you will cross a set of railroad tracks heading south, then start up 100 mile hill. at the very top of the hill the lodge is on your left.

Never noticed any signs for a lodge but probably wasn't paying attention. I will check it out on my way up to HL.

if you come through at night, there is a yellow flashing light on the sign out front of the lodge right along the highway. can't miss it

There is a winter road that runs out of Behchoko, but only goes up a couple hours north but doesn't come close to Inuvik. Actually nothing out of the yellowknife area comes close to Inuvik. You'll have to try and check out Dawson City.
