And for the record, I'm fine, everything is good, my neighbors cabin was trashed and my boat is covered in fingerprinting dust, but no one was hurt and we learned some important chit.

Cameras are going up tonight, it's warm out now so the dogs can sleep outside on the deck , the house gets locked at all times, all valuables are removed from the vehicles and they are left unlocked, Everyone knows where the bear spray is and how to use it - shoot first ask questions later.
Glad to hear your ok bog

But your never 100% ok from here on out, every noise u hear at night especially, u will be up for hours looking and checking your stuff out

I have bear spray..... and now that I know how well it works It will be my goto, was 30 mins in the shower before I could see and breath properly - Oh and I never would have thought about this but if you are sprayed, cold shower and LEAVE YOUR GAUNCH ON - stings the nether regions worse than the eyes.

I hate how our system works if someone is fawking with my chit I should be able to use whatever non lethal force I want. I get the "you can't headshot a guy with a 22 for breaking into your car" not sure I agree with it but I get it. I've worked my azz off for what I have and Bfawked if anyone should be able to dick around with that.....

Ive been bearsprayed before..... NOT COOL. And its not something you can ever explain to someone. After you are done crying from the pain and even with your eyes closed.... And you go shower and it runs out of your hair into your eyes again..... and dipping your face in milk lol. I dont care how tough you are... you get bear sprayed... you are going down.

My aim with a slingshot & pellet gun is deadly but I don't want to have to reload, I want to be able to get the left and right eye with no pause between - then I'll bearspray the fawkers.

I guess paintball would work - if they are coming at you shoot for the eyes, if running away paint the back of their head and the vehicle - remember I'm shooting from a second story window so the risk of hand to hand combat is non existent, and if they come for the house (even armed) the bear spray will take them out.
You need the pepper paint balls, just sayin. And yes they are available 👍

Trouble is any weapon you use you better have a good reason to use it. I've been told they have to be in your house and your life has to be in danger or else. So in your case if you would've had a rifle or hand gun pointed at the suspect you would be going to jail. Loosing your guns and more. I hope I'm never in a situation like this that happened to you. I do have a fire extinguisher and some other do dads that are close by for non lethal force .. and I do have two cameras and my dog. She barks at everything lol

Glad your ok. And the family didn't get hurt. To bad your dogs wouldn't have went for the guys berries. That would've been funny Maybe get some bear spray or bee spray. That chit Sprays a long way to.
So after you drop them and the adrenalin is still running you break out the front door, run out and grab the fawkers throwing them over your shoulder and throw them in the entry way.

Paint balls are latex.....freeze them....takes a couple days with the freezer cranked but they are .68 calibre musket ball at that point and you can crank up the gun with no worries about them breaking in the barrel. Should be around 350 fps. Probably knock them flat... or better..

I quality strobe flashlite when confronting someone works too. Blinding, add in your bear spray or frozen paint balls.

My brother and cousins decide to have a little paint ball war in the winter. I needn't tell you that if you get hit by one that it's going to hurt like hell. Frozen paint balls can do a lot of damage. I lost mobility of my fingers in my right hand for several minutes after taking a round to the hand.

Glad that your OK Ian. I'm pretty sure that you would handle things a lot differently if it were to happen again. I can't offer you any advice ase to what to use to defend you and your family. But I can tell you this, "Better to be tried by 12 than to be carried by 6"

paint ball gun loaded with the rubber balls, bear spray, and when the cops ask who shot and pepper sprayed them the answer is Wasn't me.That is if they call cops because I would just keep using pepper spray and more balls for awhile.

Hate to sound like the "tough guy" here but I've put a lot of thought into this subject. I guess I'm not too sure what action I'd take if I caught somebody on my yard stealing possessions but they can be replaced. The second I feel there may be a threat to my wife and 3 little girls, the 12 gauge will be ready. No pissing around. I'll worry about the judge and jury later. Just my 2 pennies.

I somewhat agree, the issue is I don't have my PAL nor do I own a gun and the biggest thing I learned was you need to have a plan worked out.....I didn't. I was expecting them to run, typically that is what happens "**** I'm caught, I'm out of here" These guys were different after they laid me out they went on to rob a gas station at gum point and bear spray the victims while lying on the floor - a different breed of criminal than your garden variety opportunistic thieves. next time I want to be ready to fight back.

And your right tex....I don't sleep as soundly (not yet anyway) I'm super sensitive to the sounds that I hear and find myself checking the garage/yard/boat every morning (carrying the bear spray) as soon as I get up. Part of me wants them to come back so I can finish it.

shoot shovel and shutup if anyone ever tries stealing my stuff youll see me on the news up for charges ill be dammed if im gonna have some waste of skin steal my stuff that ive baked in the sun shingling roofs and packing drywall down stairs

My brother and I were talking about this. He said the same thing. The cops wouldn't know where to start looking for them. It not like they tell all there friends that they are going to so and so's house to steal stuff. And would most people miss that kind? I think the search effort would be on the low side!

Smart phones and other electronic chit can leaves a trace,, gotta cover your tracks good now a days.
But hey, people disappear every day and you're right, they probably aren't the kind of people who will be missed.

Personally I think an assault rifle; AR15 ext is your best option. Not like Id ever want to shoot someone,, but if its a life or death situation...

What if they show up with an AR and all you have is a paintball gun?
