I would hope that...… This decision is not the first AC has heard of this issue and if they have competent leadership they must have considered that this was a possible outcome of the suit. If this is the case one would hope that they have been working on engineering and development of a new chassis long before this decision was made. Might mean that Cat is going to roll out something new, but it says the infringement was 2008-2014 so one would think that 2015-current are not affected by the ruling.

If Cat is caught with their pants down by this decision then shame on them and they deserve to fail, but in the grand scheme of things $2.8M is a pittance and all they need to do is strike a deal with BRP for royalties to continue selling. On the surface it seems bad for the Cat dealer network but who knows it may just be a bump in the road, unfortunately that road is quickly falling apart for other reasons so any bump could be the straw that breaks the camels back.

I like the "stop the sale, use and distribution of any snowmobile which would infringe BRP’s frame patent"
How can they enforce at stop to the "Use" of a particular model?
How are trade in's affected if they can not sell used units?

Glad I sold my 14 pro-climb last year and jumped to an Axys…..

Yeah but what about Polaris? I mean when you strip them all down, they all look the same. Arctic Cat looks the least similar to doo the Polaris does. So why pick on Cat? Feels like cheap blow

I just don’t get why doo is being such a little bitch about it. But they all do have the pyramid type of design so why not go after the rest of them? Just a reason to push cat out of Canada?

They knew this was coming for something as the reason for how the snowmobile side was structuring the sales and treating dealers .
IMO

To bad I liked my Cat.
Doo has had their share of lost law suits also.
Had to pay Simmons a crazy amount and stop using the pilot dual carbide skis. Lost the RER/PERC lawsuit ad had to pay Polaris and give up some tech or that bill would have been worse than crazy high.

Hope Textron does not throw in the towel for all the Cat people and instead updates the chassis but no sure the new chassis is affected?????
Need that inter-company competition.

Actually they lost on a suspension infringement and gave up tech on RER so Polaris could develop PERC as compensation if my memory serves me correct.

I can't wait to hear the cat guys next winter....

Its been years of "oh ya? just wait..." and "if you knew, what I know..." or "I've seen the prototype, it exists" yadda yadda yadda...

Maybe, just maybe there's nothing coming...

WOW, is that polaris steering system ever a chitshow. no wonder they handle like tugboat. on the plus side, they wont have to worry about anyone stealing that botch job LOLOL

Right below that is a modern belt drive where as the skud's picture has the worlds second longest chain below their steering (Guiness World Records has the longest rubber chain ever recorded on the G4)
aaah some times it is too easy.

Will take a few months likely to have a market response from Cat........will have to wait to see wazzup.

Best to to pay whiney Doo for the old 2012 chassis and move on.

It’s safe to say that no Manufacturer will be copying ski doo’s rear suspension?!!
Pffft everyone knows torsion springs are the most desirable option for their light weight, progressive spring rate, and you can set the antique pre-load blocks differently side to side to really dial in the stiffness. None of which an airshock does 100x better.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Those that talk about it don’t know, and those that know don’t talk about it
