Newbie needs advise

Been years since I have been on a sled. But I'm having a mid life chrisis and would like to get out a few times a year. Looking around I have been thinking about getting a used ski-doo xp 800 163. Have 5k or so to spend but need gear too. Is this a realistic amount for a decent sled that will be reliable enought for 3 of 4 weekends and a few day trips a year ?

That kind of money puts you into the early 2010s. The only sled from that time I would consider reliable would say Yamaha on the side. Maybe a Cat if it was low mileage and mint. Some don't like 4 strokes but unless you get a great deal on something a bit newer and low miles that is what I would do.

I agree with Ballzdeep. The XM's were pretty good sleds other than the initial 2011's. Not a lot of problems with them.

Doesnt seem to be a lot of xm for sale right now. Also based on kijiji it looks like I have to go from spending about 3500 on a sled to 6 or 6500.

go with a 2013 skidoo xm etec ! do not buy a xp with a ptek, I made that mistake ! sometimes ur better off spending just a little more right away than buying something cheaper that ends up costing more in the long run ! Also a 2013 or newer cat has probably the most reliable two stroke but there just a little tougher to handle than the XM ! just what I have experianced ! I have seen XMs and 2013 cats for around 5 grand so they are out there !

Was just going to post this for the guy, I've been trying to convince a couple friend to buy this rig to get into the XM chassis but they ain't biting for what ever reason.

Likely will be listing my wife’s sled after the Feb long weekend (15th to 18th). 2014 800 Pro Rmk. Just did a full short block in it through Mots Machining (new case, crank, cylinders, and pistons). Comes with warranty on that engine until January of next year. If your interested in discussing feel free to message me.
