CRF 150F is very comparable to the TTR 125 just a bit bigger and a lot heavier. These bikes are trail bikes, plain and simple.. i'm not exactly sure what "road" racing is as far as dirt bikes are concerned, i'm only aware of MX track, harescramble, sumo and ice racing but if your interested in Honda, and if your looking for a more race-ready bike I'd look into the CRF 150R.

The CFR 150X is the trail bike and the CFR 150R is Honda's full blown MX Race bike. The CFR 150R is comparable to a 85 2stroke. Not enough bike for a 16yo in my opinion.
If your gonna race then you cant be scared of power, your the one riding the bike and in control right?
I would suggest a 250F of any brand, get a used one and save some scratch. You say you will be sponsored by honda when you road race, but if the aren't helping you get started I would say get whatever is cheapest.
