New Tow vehicle, what tonneau cover

So finally did the deed and bought myself a new toy. picked up a low miler 2009 GMC 2500 Duramax. Love the truck so far and haven't even towed with it yet.

I am looking at getting a tonneau cover ASAP and have looked at the tri fold and bak flip folding covers. I don't want a roll-n-lock or a true tonneau like a leer or undercover as I really want to be able to utilize the full box lenth sometimes.

Has anyone used either of the bak flip or tri fold that can give me some feedback?

loved the Undercover, but yes a pain if you need something in the box...spent alot of time with it tied 'over' something

I have a bakflip on a 2008 denali and I like it. Easy mount(under 1 hour) and still have my rails on. I have a locking tailgate so its secure but if they want in they will get in. Stays very dry but road dust does get in but way less than I expected. My .02$

I have a tri fold.......Junk really.... they split apart at the seams in the cold...the first one I had to go get some epoxy and screws to hold it together till I got to bring it in for warrenty....then the guy says oh why did you do that we can't fix that.....so about two days later the other seam separated, I called him up brought it in and yeah they gave me a new one, month later same thing, then a newer/ish version came out and I got it as a replacement untill they fixed my second one......the brother borrowed my truck and he folded it up to put something in the box, on the way home the snaps holding it in the folded position broke and the thing went flap flap smash goes the back window with a dent in the cab and the thing is in three pieces. got the second one back and now it's filled with epoxy and screws( on a good note it hasn't come apart yet) don't go tri-fold.

I have a trifecta by Extang on my 8ft box. Its a 1piece top, but does fold into its self twice. The service & warranty has been awesome! My fault, broke couple things. Call them up in Michigan, speak with customer guy. Ask how did you break that, tell dumb story. He laughs, well dont do that again. Sends parts for free & they paided the shipping. I would buy there product again forsure.

I've had the bakflip for a 1.5 years. It is holding up well, no issues with rubber giving out on the seams, if it is adjusted right it stays pretty dry in there. In a heavy rain the drain tubes will not keep up and will leak a bit.

I like the fact that it is a hard cover so with the locking tailgate everything inside is secure. Just need to make sure you wipe down where the bakflip meets the top of the tailgate when you wash in the winter. I learned that the hard way when it froze me out!

Really thinking that might be the way to go, need something to keep stuff away from prying eyes and sticky fingers. Had a canopy on my 04 Ford and loved it but want to be able to put a quad in the box this time around and am thinking of getting rid of the bumper pull trailer and going to a fifth wheel so the canopy will be NFG.

For what its worth, I have a Truxedo Lo Pro QT that I have and love. Keeps everything covered and out of sight, lock the tail gate and it can't be opened (unless someone wants in, but then nothing will stop a person that really wants to). The reason I got mine is cause when I load my quad to go camping, its two quick release tabs up front and I have full box length to use and the rolled up cover sits under my quad while travelling. Once quad is off truck, cover goes back on to keep everything dry and safe underneath while camping. Unless you only want a hard cover then forget what I said.

I looked at them but nervous about the soft cover and how easy it is to get into. Have you had any issues with the velcro coming loose?

I've had a Truxedo roll up on for a couple of years and no issues with the velcrnly a bit of dust will get in around the tail gate but I don't think it has anything to do with the cover.Very little moisture gets in sometimes just around the corners.Good luck with your purchase.

Zero problems with velcro, when it gets dirty or if crud gets in I use a pressure washer on the velcro, still holds perfectly well two years later. I've rolled up the cover in extreme cold, still rolls easily, no cracks and still looks good, perfectly happy with it.

Well decided on the Bak Flip, liked the way it worked and attached to the truck. Got really lucky and found one on Kijiji only a couple of months old.... guy sold his truck and kept it. Saved a bunch of money and got it installed in about 10 minutes. Now hopefully it functions as well as I think it will

My Truxedo Lo Pro is roughly 4yrs old now and on its second truck and it still is as good as the day I bought it. Wouldn't buy anything else.
