Hi everybody.

I am new to the world of dirt biking and I am just wondering if anyone can tell me where exactly you are allowed to ride and what kind of insurance etc... that you have to have. I live in Sparwood in the S.E. corner of BC, about 10 min from the BC/AB border.

Any info you guys can give me would be great.

Thanks.

Welcome to the site Kiffer, Im not sure about riding area's there myself, but insurance you would require is most importantly Liability insurance. But in BC don't you get that all through ICBC? You can go further and get Fire,Theft, vandalism insurance and collision.

Thanks for the reply Mr. Knight. Yes I would have to insure through ICBC. Do you know how much liability I would need? Or just what I think is safe. By "where are you allowed to ride" I meant are you able to ride on areas like crown land and forestry roads? And if so what are the rules for doing so?

for sure man so what kind of bike are you riding

My father in law just gave me a 73 Yamaha 125 AT3 that he found at the dump. It looks to be in okay shape, but I am going to have to rebuild the engine. I am going to ride it until I can afford an new one.

I would like to get a YZ250F, but even used ones are still pretty pricey. I bought a 95 DS 80 for my wife to learn how to ride on last summer. My son will take it next summer (he rides an "ebay" 50cc right now) and then I will buy the wife something bigger.

I have ridden dirt bikes/quads several times throughout my life, but never one as big as the YZ250F. For those in the know, do you think it's too big for a "beginner". I am 6ft tall and weigh about 145lbs (I know I am skinny as hell). Any other recommendations for a good used MX?

Well Kiffer welcome to the site. Your wife should love driving that little 125 a whole lot as it's a great beginners bike. As for yourself, being so tall, you probably would love jumping onto any 450f or even the ktm 520. Gotta learn sometime...why not start off big????? The more power/torque you gots the easier it is to get out of trouble....:D
