New Polaris Issues

I have a buddy who works at a dealer and they had a new one in already with the carbon fiber sub structure by the front shocks busted out!Apparently Polaris has holes drilled in the carbon fiber and that's where it's cracked and busted.I'm not that familiar with carbon fiber but I guess you shouldn't drill holes in it!Now Polaris is in no big hurry to warranty it.They even had to talk to the R&D department about it!Also they're having issues with the glue holding the gears on the drive shafts!Any play at all during pdi and they have to warranty it!Glue lets go and it will just sit there and rev!Just some issues that a guy should keep an eye out for before you get way back in some ch!t hole and then it lets go!Maybe some bolts and splines might be worth the couple of ounces of weight gain,at least it will be reliable!

The salesman who was trying to sell me a machine yesterday said there was no issues with the new ones!I was thinking about maybe buying one but after talking to the mechanic I'm not to sure!Has anyone else had any problems?I've been watching on here and kind of been noticing that the new Polaris guys have been a little quiet.And I'm not picking a fight!LOL!My other buddy has a new doo that seems to work pretty good but only has 100 miles on it!So its hard to tell.Also is anyone still having problems with polaris warranty?Because the doo guy's brother inlaw just had his 2010 assault pop the motor but it has been in and out of the shop since new!Less than 800 miles and sounds like the typical 800 engine deal and his warranty sounds like it might be done!

Well, of course the salesman will tell you anything you want to hear.....Your doing the right thing in asking around....I would visit every poo thread you can and form your own decision. Bear in mind that most times on these forums, you only hear the bad stuff cause why publish the good things? Go and look at all brands....check the fit and finish and the access to basic maintenance items like clutch's and plugs, etc.... Test rides are then very important if you can.... All sleds have their own issues..... just a matter of finding out as much as you can about the industry right now and making your best educated guess. Its just a sled.....can always sell it if ya don't like it and try another..... in the mean time, because a couple guys have popcorn ready and drinks in hand....lol...here's a video.....:d

Could you elaborate a little more on these gears that are glued on to the drive shaft???? Is there something a fella can look for? I personally try to stay out of shitholes but some of the people I ride with can't be trusted!!!

Buy the Doo. Polaris has issues to resolve. If I was to go out and but one right now, it would be an XM. That little bit of weight is a fair trade for less issues.

From what I understand it is the lower gear on the drivers.It sounds like it is just glued on the shaft.I guess they had 2 that they were pdi'ing and polaris said any play at all and they had to replace them!I was thinking about a new 6 for the wife and give her m6 to the daughter but I guess it might have to be a doo because those retards at cat don't make a 6 anymore!!Only problem I can see is if I get her a doo she might develope a cocky attitude and be unbearable to live with!!LOL!!...Just kidding!!

I bought a 2013 MXZ 600 sport for the wife with electric start for $7499 with $300 accessories, belt and linq bag. Hard to beat that deal....

I'm sure I paid more for a 1998 Polaris 700XC back in 1997.... just lots of options out there....the new Indy is not bad either.

if your looking at the polaris I would look at the assualt rmk. It still has a chancase, and stronger shaft. Or even look at the RMK(non-pro) which also still has the chaincase with a claimed dry weight of 436lbs.

seen a pro in revy in a creek with the broken driveshaft with less than 100km on it and they were pissed.

We he out on it today? I am pretty sure I saw him going passing through the back. I was going to head out today but no energy left lol. Polaris is having their issues for 13. Either wait or get a 12. Or buy a skidoo.

There are several forums on these issues. The drive shaft issue is not new: as of December 8th, my dealer mechanic said that there had been 110 known failures. The shaft issue has been officially acknowledged in a bulletin by Polaris and is being fixed with an end clamp, for now. I have 400+ kms on mine and haven't had even a lick of an issue with it. The carbon fibre substructure IS NOT supposed to be drilled: when they put the new goggle bags on they were drilling into them. My mechanic was smart enough to figure out that this was a NO NO and refused to install the goggle bag until he had heard of a better solution. This too has been addressed with an updated procedure for bag install that does not involve drilling into structural components.

I think the bigger problem that you need to face is that your dealer is dishonest and will say anything to sell a machine; evidenced by the fact that he is glossing over known and acknowledged issues to try and sell you it. I will say that the handling of the machine is awesome and the lower weight is extremely noticeable as a female rider.

If you want to know the DOO issues, head over to that forum, because they do have issues too. An XM in our group the other day blew off the trail and the rider had to bail when the throttle froze 1/4 open. All machines have issues, but do you have a dealer who is willing to follow up??

Its funny how the public all screams for lighter weight and when the OEMs comply by using exotic materials. And then some failures occur, the public then chews the OEs out. If the general public wants feather light sleds there will be some growing pains using these materials. Real world riding puts this new technology through its paces in a way the OEMs can't replicate. We can only imagine in another 5yrs what the sleds produced will be like once the technology is mastered and its limits and uses are known.

All love and roses in the Doo camp..... love for the sled and rosey cheeks..... The throttle issue is a build-up of ice because of all the powder people are busting with the XM which can happen to all sleds....
Honestlly, its your decision and right now....Too Light is not always right

yup theres a recall on the 2013 pro rmk drive shafts. i wouldnt feel too confident hitting the hills with a pro that hasnt had the recall done or the aftermarket shaft clamps installed.

with that being said, rode a skidoo XM 163 and a 2013 pro 163 and the pro out handled it all day in the trees! the XM is definately nicer to ride then the old XP's though, both the pro and XM are solid sleds!
