New pass words

Here`s a way I came up with creating passwords that is easy to remember but is different for every site I visit. I have one password( not going to say it out loud) lets say it`s "qwerty" what I do from there is make one letter a capital( lets say the second letter for this "qWerty") The I will add a number and a symbol(e.g:qWerty2@) now for every site I go to I will add the site name to it. so for this site snowandmud.com I may have a password that is "qWerty2@snowandmud" or "qWerty2@sandm" or "qWerty2@snow&mud" what every I think I will remember. this way if my pass word for this site got discovered it can't be used on another site. for something like youtube I may have qWerty2@youtube for a bank qWerty2@royal. What do you guys thinks?

Just download a password app on your phone. I use 1password and it's fantastic. Auto generates passwords that are secure, saves them on your phone and enters them into sites for you if browsing on your phone. There's also extensions for chrome, firefox, etc that you can install that will auto fill your passwords on browsers for you.

I think 1password charges a monthly fee now, I'm still on the free plan but I know there's other apps that you just pay the $0.99 and get forever usage from.

I like it but my issue is my server requires me to change my password every 3 months. I hate having so many passwords.

My password is abft56jewqWs567 just to my bank account at BMO though. Everything else I use my gold fish's name. (Fluffy)

I'm on an iphone so whenever you get a new phone and you use the icloud signin, it automatically downloads the app and sets it all up. I'm not sure how that all works on android. If you lost your phone you could just go to 1passwords website, login, and all your stuff will be there. https://1password.com. The only password you need to remember is the one to login to 1pass.

Honestly, just try it for the few bucks its costs. It makes life sooooo much easier than having to memorize some sort of system for all your different passwords.

It depends on the app and/or your phone's config. Many password apps store to the cloud, so you just have to remember your master credentials an resync. iCloud can protect you if info is stored locally.

It should be noted that the length of your password is much more important than the complexity. ...at least these days where computing power is cheap and password hashes for shorter passwords can be cracked in hours instead of days or years.

I keep all my passwords the same, if I can. Been a member of a lot of sites for many years. They used to be simple. Then some started requiring at least one capitol letter, then one wants a symbol, then the next one says it’s to short. Then they all say you need at least one capitol letter and one symbol and has to be 16 characters long. Gets messed up trying to remember, so as each site had more demands, I’d go and change them all. Now I have no idea what some are, especially to an old forum called Nyrocks atv forum. Haven’t logged in there for 8 years or more. Thankfully there’s the iPhone remembers your password option. Or I’d be screwed lol.

That is probably the single worst thing you can do!! In fact you'd be way better off having super simple passwords you can remember but different for each site.

If you get successfully phished or a site you use gets compromised, the bad guys can crack their password database and now have the keys to your entire life. ...or the means to get just enough information to impersonate you.

thats what I was trying to stop, but having to remember different passwords for different sites is impossible. and with all the celebrity photos being stolen off the cloud I don't really trust that as a safe place to store info about myself.
