In Alberta your not regulated to certain roads besides highways and what not. We are free to ride where ever on crown land for the most part. I've spent a lot of time in BC. and have seen several different places I've thought to my self ''Man I wish I had my quad with me '' I'd love to see where that trail or cut line goes. I don't really care for back road riding or groomed trails that are designated for routine riding. Don't get me wrong I'm sure gram and gramps would love this kind of thing, just not my cup of tea. I ride to get out of the normal trend

That's awesome, i guess you won't be coming to B.C. because we cramp your unregulated style.
In BC there are regulation's and if one doesn't like it then don't come here. There are million's of other's that love being here in BC and we welcome them, from all over the world. So one less motor head isn't going to be noticed by anyone.

I find it disrespectful how people from other places, not native to BC come to BC to recreation, holiday and enjoy British Columbian's natural resources and yet criticize our way's.

P.S. i can tell you this, you couldn't pay me to holiday in Alberta no mater how unregulated it is.

Alberta has regulations for off highway vehicle use just like everywhere else and just like everywhere else people do not go out and educate themselves as to what the rules are.

Alberta does have PLUZ areas (public land use zones) which are designed for OHV use that has very regulated and monitored use. Just like Bc though there is never enough enforcement in these areas and they become abused. And yes on crown land you are required to follow existing trails although the typical attitude is to "free range" where ever people want. We have large problems with the ATV community riding on designated single track areas for bikes. No amount of signage and width reduction attempts keeps quads out of these areas.

Why would you own a quad in Alberta then? Don't they have regulations and laws there as well?
If you use a quad or anything else respectfully and within the regulations there is still more than enough fun to be had no matter what you want to do.
Just can't do it everywhere.

doesn't sound like it, sounds a bit lame really. unless gravel roads are your thing.

Has any body stopped to realize that we have many , many holes on our designated trails ...lots of them & big ones too . Lol and seriously these do not destroy the earth.....

The fact remains there is more erosion created by logging, mining and oil drilling and a host of other activities , than all the quads could ever do....

As I have said many times , we don't pay royalties though and the other industries do...,!!! Our only bargaining chip is the HUGE amount of $$$ we throw into the economy...

at at least that's my take on it.

Isn't this the same as the argument "Well it doesn't matter if I litter cause I'm only one guy and everyone else does it too?"

Maybe i miss understood his post and if i did i apologize to Beer Belch but it appears to me every time BC comes up with some reg. or law (even if it may appear's stupid or a money grab) that NON residence that only want to play here complain on how restrictive BC is.
Maybe BC residence are more concern with their environment and protecting it then other provinces....i'm guessing. Either way if you choose to come to BC to recreation, be respectful and abide by our BC regs. especially when it comes to our environment.
"Meaning" if you choose not to be insured or registered, that is your problem if you get caught by the authorities. But if you choose to ride in NON designated riding areas with your toy and disrespect our environment because you don't like the BC regulation's...then it becomes British Columbian's problem as residence.

Did quadders cut down the trees and make a bare stretch of earth miles long crossing several waterways? Erosion on pipelines will always be an inherent problem with the pipelines whether quads (or horses or mountain bikes, or butterflies) use that stretch to ride on or not.

Kind of a random out of place picture for the topic of this thread anyways....

no you're right, Industry did the clearing, however, industry also "owns" that pipeline right of way and there is talk of them finding ways to deny access to the general public on some of these more tender areas.

You're going to see more area's closed down, and more restrictions put onto area's even here in Alberta. Lots of people have the attitude that ATV's don't cause that much damage, that is not the case. You should see the paperwork and loopholes, and hours of manual labor we have to put in to run a 70km "ride" in July in the Rocky Mountain House area.... and lots of that trail continues to get more damaged by jeeps, UTV's, and ATV's with no respect for what we have.

If we don't start respecting the land and area's where we are permitted to ride whether its here in Alberta, in BC, or anywhere else, we're going to lose them. I put these photo's up simply to show the kind of damage that can occur from ATV's with Mother Natures help.

I can show countless pictures in Alberta where the OHV club spent numerous hours marking out the trail systems in coordination with the logging company that was going to work in a specific area. The loggers were to leave strips of wooded areas that were pre determined to save the trail systems from erosion and so on. Everything was settled and the ministry approved. The loggers went in and rather than keep the trees they just topped them all leave 8 foot tall stumps. What a joke. That is beyond stupidity. I know it isn't really the same topic but it is also an issue.

Whether it's the trail users, Ohv clubs, the forestry groups, oil and gas pipeline works or the government, everyone has their own agenda and rarely does anyone work together.

I pay to be a member of ohv clubs in AB. It's a small fee to help support the growth of the dirt bike community. I rely upon them to be my voice and support their decisions. I have looked around the web for feedback for the Okanagan changes,(whether they are changes or not) and I hardly see any mention of it on the ATV forums in BC.

Who is the main or larger ATV clubs that operate in these areas? I do not see any comments from them.

Ya but it's okay for all kinds of people from BC to come work in Alberta in the oil patch, building pipelines, well sites, etc. I guess its okay to affect someone else's environment eh? How about all that raw sewage that gets pumped into the ocean at Victoria, but BCers are better environmental stewards. I think they are just bigger hypocrites. Who cares if you come to Alberta to vacation, we don't need snot-nosed think they are better than us idiots here anyway. Please stay in BC.

Furthermore, Alberta used to be a lot better place than when all kinds of people from other provinces came here, including from BC, because they don't respect our environment or our province in the least, because its not home for the, so this goes both ways.

Not at all the vast majority of riders on here are very respectful of where and how they ride....!
My point is you can't put out a huge forest fire with a squirt gun.....

Do you actively re-mediate the areas you ride? Because the industrial users do and judging from TG's photos they re-mediate the damage done by other users as well.

I don't think anyone is saying that mudding is bad they're just saying that not everything that's wet needs to be turned into a mud pit and that there are areas to go wild in and other areas to tread lightly in.
