Better yet the oilers can trade RNH and Eberle to the flames for $5 million. We already have a nice arena.
Only in Calgary would you find an arena shaped like a cowboy hat..........no wonder kipper looks stoned half the time................

Just because you're not a hockey team building a new arena is stupid? Oilers can't put bums in seats? The Oilers sell out almost every game. Many people come from out of town to watch games, and spend money in the city. If you disagree with public money being spent on any business venture, do you also agree with no public money going to farmers? I'm told often by farmers that they run a business, so what's the difference. There are many things in my County I don't agree with my tax money going into, such as equine facilities, centres, etc. as I don't ride horses. It is not just an arena being built, it is a downtown entertainment complex, and will benefit the city as a whole. Northlands can do the rodeo, they don't need hockey. I'm in agreement with you that money shouldn't be spent on business, but only if that applies to ALL business, including agriculture. Do you agree?
I guess if we were to backup and stop public money spent in private buisness , consider this.........None of us would be driving Duramax`s with a skidoo / canam in the back...........................

My point was why should the province kick money in on the arena when Edmonton and Katz will be the ones to benefit the most! Most likely Katz!If both sides are 100 million short kick in another 50 each then they can do what ever they want and run it how ever they see fit!!You hear about farmers getting grants and think all of us get them and figure all farmers run on government money not so!!You should look into what farmers get paid for their product and the huge mark up on your FOOD in the store believe me the money is all made after it leaves the farm!!Maybe put more effort into researching info before jumping on the farmer bashing band wagon but I guess it is just easier to throw stones heh!Maybe get into how much the oil field gets from the government and I'd bet you would still bitch about farmers!!Oil and agriculture is what this province was built on!!Maybe take the money the government is supposed to kick in and give it to the small towns across the province!!!That's where most of the best hockey players seem to be from anyways!!!Maybe I should change my name on here and pretend to be from the city and I bet the idiots with the farmer bashing arguments would be lost and speechless!!!!

Is your farm a business or not? I grew up on a farm and deal with farmers all the time, so I don't need to do any research on the subject. I know what the profit margins are and they are not great. I did not say all farmers live on government grants, so calm down and quit being so sensitive. I also know that not all farmers are scratching by as you seem to imply. My point was that many businesses receive some govt money, not just the arena deal. If it's good for the goose it's good for the gander. It is not farmer bashing, it is simply stating facts. I did not say either that the agriculture industry should not be supported, as I believe in a strong agriculture industry and the playing field for our farmers is not level compared to their European and American counterparts. The government sticks it's nose into business all the time, sometimes it may be a good thin, sometimes not. Having a different viewpoint than you doesn't make a person an idiot, by the way.

The arena will make edmonton a world class events center, which we are already on the verge of becoming. Look at how much the new "opera" house cost edmonton, and less than 10% of the population uses(including school trips there), as compared to over 80% of edmontonians will enjoy the new arena complex, in one aspect or the other....... Keep in mind it isn't only an arena, but also includes a new hotel, casino, office towers, shopping mall(also connected to eatons town center, via underground tunnel), and mini amusement park. Edmonton downtown would benefit huge from this..........not to mention the jobs this will create. Bring on the provincial and federal coin and gitr'done

people who are opposed to this arena are just being blind to the benifits because all they see is the rich getting richer, and they are jealous. its nopthing more than a sign of pettiness. they are willing to wish away something great for the city just becasue all they can wrap their heads around is katz making money, GOD FORBID. are there negatives to this yes, but the positives far out weigh.

so tough luck douches, katz will get what he wants, he will make more money off the arena, and our tax dollars will help him do that........all the while creating jobs, revenue, bringing more and bigger events into the city........chitty deal for us right??? damnit i wish they would take my tax dollars and build revamp some art and culture resource i will never use

The federal govenment built a fawking bridge to PEI... TO PEI????? the feds have already set aside cash for Quebecs new arena in hopes the will get a team... If government is gonna waste cash they might as well waste it on something I'm gonna enjoy..I'm sure blue collar edmonton will get more use out of an arena than an art gallery........
