Got an email this morning about this unit... price is a little steep, and could be pretty much obsolete in a few years if they get the starlink to your cell phone part figured out.

Didn't the iPhone 14 and up have satellite capability?
Except it was through the Globalstar network, where as inreach uses the iridium network that is more reliable.

Correct but only to contact emergency services. Hopefully someday soon they do iPhone to iPhone via satellite to contact wifey when you’re having too much fun to make it home for dinner.

I heard the 16 was going to have full access not just what the 14 had and maybe the 14 was even able be updated... hopefully this is the case... If they see it as lost revenue to Garmin it wont be long and they will just charge for it...
Hey I think you’re right. That could be a game changer if it’s not junk. And isn’t insanely priced after the free two year thing runs out.

Seems like a downgrade to me, the entire reason I still have my original inreach and not a Zoleo is for the keyboard and you don’t need a smartphone to use the features. If I’m taken out and unable to use it, anyone in my group easily can . Not sure why you’d get this new model over a zoleo for what, half the price?
