Yeah, I think that's a great idea too but in this age she's lucky she only got a reprimand. Nevertheless good for her!

I remember the teachers throwing the chalkboard erasers at us.....you know the wooden ones with felt attached as the eraser!!! Damn they hurt!! Or getting swatted with a yardstick! OK dating myself there lol. Bottom line is they cant even discipline kids anymore! Hell I even remember the odd boot in the A$$ but I grew up fine! I never blame My (mean teachers) for anything.

LOL. My brother got his head lightly bumped into the blackboard by his teacher as he was trying to "communicate" to him that he has a thick scull as the reason from not grasping math. That was in 1975. I got the strap in grade 3 for skipping out of class. The strap was a piece of power line cable about 1 foot long (after all these years I still remember). Principal told me if I resisted I would get 4 whacks on the palm of the hand instead of two. Man that hurt!!!

Erasers, yard stick, pointer, strap, paddle board whatever was handy. Felt them all a few even broke in the process. Even got a good old spanking once. I say bring it back, kids these days don't have to pay for their dumb ass moves. A stern verbal scolding don't do shat.

My grade 3 teacher had a leather strop (the straps used to sharpen straight blades) damn thing was about 1/2" thick...still remember that dang thing! You'd go up there to get your hands tenderized, and all you could smell was the baily's in his coffee mug ( the old piss tank) lol. We knew if we jacked around and got caught we'd getter. Not like it is today, Molly coddling the kids, ( that's my old guy phrase for the evening), And Talking about their hurt feelers...

I have seen this story on local and national new's."Parents outraged at kid's mouth's being taped shut"
But of course they dont give any details, just the shock value of the incidents.
I figured there was more to the story than what was being told, and the above article show's exactly that.

In the mid 1980's when I was in jr.high school I heard of and seen the principal pick up and SLAM high
school boy's into the hallway lockers. They were being loud, yelling, swearing, whatever, and he (principal)
would put an abrupt stop to it.Was it gentle, was he concerned about their feelings, did the boy's cry?
NO.................... Were all of the boy's in high school afraid of him ......YES... He was maybe overly mean
and rough, but all of the guy's that I know that finished high school there grew up to be MEN,not thumb sucking
coddled boy's.
Good for that teacher for running her classroom her way and not letting the students run it.
I'm sure all of the other students in the room that are trying to learn and listen aren't whining and crying
about the loudmouth's being silenced.

I was a bit of a **** disturber back in school up until about the start of senior high. I will admit that I have seen the strap, yard stick, chalk board eraser and detention a few times. Teachers can't be teachers now a days or heaven forbid them to hand out discipline. Bunch of coddled ungrateful lazy kids now a days that know they can just about get away with murder.

Yea its scary how weak this up coming generation is. This isnt by accident, its by design.

This new generation of weak lings will provide little resistance to the coming changes.

Hahaha, awesome! Man, times have changed! My ma's a retired teacher. I can't count the number of times she broke a toy over a kid's head or ripped their jackets while man handling them ...and not a word was ever said about it. By the time she retired, she wasn't even allowed to give them detention.

Lol, she did cross the line a few times. In her defense, she did have a pretty good relation ship with her students and the kids were teenagers but still usually appreciated that fact that they were owed a slap.

not sure if I agree. If my kid was out of line in school nothing like a good ear pulling or a back hand on the neck and teacher would never hear from me. This of course all depends on the circumstances and teachers approach.

And there-in lies the problem...........

On the defensive from the get-go! Not going to take the time to get the whole story and search out the truth of the matter........defend my kid to the hilt and look just as silly as he does!

I retired after 30 years of teaching! I was one of those with the ruler, board brush, ear twist, little back of the neck hair pull to get a confused student's attention. Then we would have a little polite (not agitated) talk about values, morals, and attitude. Seemed to work at the time but as things changed it was time to change or retire..........

A funny part to the story...........I had a big kid in grade 5 (it was a mixed classroom from K-5) get a little agitated one day and he picked up his desk and chair and literally threw them across the classroom. Luckily, no one was hurt. I physically escorted (reasonable force), the student out the front door and suspended him for a couple days. When I got to the store after the day was over, someone asked if so-and-so's granny found me. Apparently, she was driving around on her Enticer with her 30-30 looking for "that fawking Doug"........protection to the utmost! She got over it and the kid, after calming down, understood the gravity of what he did.

I was the last kid in my county to be strapped in Grade 6. After that it was a Sh!t show lol. I knew they couldn't do anything to me but give me lunch hour detention.

They tried to give me an in school suspenison for outstanding days of detention that i owed and the end of each year and i would laugh cause i knew there was no way my old man was driving me in for that. lol

Then they tried out of school suspensions three in one year. Then threaten with expulsion which is near impossible in a rural community as they have to bus you to the next town which would never happen due to cost.

Eventually they came to an agreement with my parents to fully fund my distance learing courses and i did my high school from home while working full time. Best thing i ever did. Parent realized i wasn't a trouble maker when i wasn't waiting for the slower kids to catch up lol And making money has always made me happier.
