Looking at purchasing a used sled. Any problems with this model?? Concerns?? It was in production for just a couple of years, does this mean anything??
They did have huge problems with the 900 initially, in my experience with the 3 people that I know that have one is:
1) As long as ALL the factory updates have been done ( dealer can check with vin#), they're good
2) If set up properly.............thay are damn hard to beat
3) Clutch venting is a must
clutch venting is a must, many other mods u can do for cheap or next to nothn but arent a must for it to run. i liked mine when it was stock, i LOVE mine now with all the mods. pm me if u have ne questions.
wouldnt say high maintenance. requires some attention yes. heavy....540-550 stock but theres alota stuff that can be removed. but once setup and dialed in she'll pull ur arms off.
we own an 05 900 and it has been great! but my mechanic is great contact him he knows lots about these sleds he is on here as Chrisco or his web site is listed below tell him i sent ya! im sure he can give you great advice! also check in the Polaris section there is one set up for the 900's!
The 06 was better than the 05, but still a vibrating monster. Lots of issues with them. They can be made to work. Since you have a choice, buy something else. Polaris quit making them, because they couldn't make it work. The guys who still have them will tell you they like them. The guys who got rid of them (like me) will tell you to avoid them. In my case, some of the issues were: torque stop, motor mounts, oil cable, crank, cooling, air box, stator, fuel float, stator a second time, couple more motor mounts and torque stops, but after that it worked quite well.
if you have a 900 that works then they are great......if you have problems with it.......you will always have problems with it.(the 900 curse)......and if you never ride it.......and leave it in the garage......it will always be a great sled! put 4000 miles on a 900 and tell me how much parts were for it lol?
I had 05 900 166" that was bulletproof!Should have geared it down though.Bought it new and traded it off with 3500 miles on it.Got a 08 800 dragon 155" now that was a piece of crap! But the 900's were if you got a good one they were awesome and the next one would be the total opposite! The 06 900 had more power and could be modified easier because of the new injectors and ecm.The only issues I heard of were torque stops and motor mounts and the belt issues was alot to do with not being geared low enough with the bigger tracks!
