Looking for some help from the experts. I have a 84 Honda qr 50 (Hondas pw 50)i'm trying to get running for my son. I wired in a new Chinese cdi trying to get spark.

5 wire 2 stroke cdi

I have 50+ volts going into cdi and 1-5volts going to trigger into cdi. I then have 2 output wires both with 30ish volts with one hooked to coil and other not in use. Ground wire grounded.

Coil tests 0.7 ohms primary and 9.5kohms on plug wire to ground so to me this seems fine.

So I have 20 volts into coil and still no spark.

Where do I go from here?

More Information: no wiring diagram so only guessing on wiring based on voltage readings.

1.From bike: Blue/yellow(1-5volts) to blue cdi. (assume trigger)

2.From bike: Black/white(50+ volts) to red cdi. (assume AC supply)

3. From bike: Green to green (assume ground)

From Cdi: yellow wire (flucuates 2-20volts) to coil primary.

From Cdi: black wire (20-30ish volts) not connected. I think for a kill switch.

This is how I have it connected right now. Any suggestions?

I had a bad cdi on my bike once, it was electric start and while cranking it over, I had to whack the cdi with a wrench to get it to fire.

Cleaned up the grounds and added another directly to the frame and got the bike running. Cleaned out the plugged exhaust and exhaust port. Checked compression 140 psi and the bike Flys now.

Little bit to fast for a 3 year old and quite loud need to find a way to quiet it down. Have $12 dollars into the bike now.

quite loud need to find a way to quiet it down.

Back in the day on the farm we used to stuff some steel wool down the pipe and crunch up some chicken wire and stuff that in to keep the steel wool from blowing out, would really quiet it down for about 6 months till the steel wool rusted away, free & effective.

Bikes pretty much complete now. Pulled it out of barn and brought back to life. $125 total into it with training wheels.
Ended up adding lawn mower muffler
Might add some Cr 50 graphics.

Looks good but shouldnt the training wheels be up off the ground and both bike wheels on the ground?

Bikes sitting on the stand and tipped to one side. Training wheels sit up about 2" on each side with my son on it.

once he gets used to it I will keep raising them up.

Ditch the training wheels...they teach you how to steer incorrectly compared to when the wheels come off. They do not teach how to counter steer. As soon as they come off, I will guarantee you your kid will crash.

That’s why all the new kids bicycles are striders...no pedals and no training wheels. They teach kids how to steer properly from the get go. Same reason why tricycles are a bad idea.

Free unsolicited advice...

Yes i've heard both sides of the big training wheel debate on pw forums. He has a strider and does well on it. Want to get him used to the throttle and brake before I just let him loose on it. He just turned 3 in October and can't touch without the training wheels.

With the training wheels so low at the moment should be no different than a small quad where there is no balance or counter steering
