Need some advice here guys. I have a 26ft bumper pull travel trailer and i am tired of running my sled deck. so i was thinking of building a platform off the back big enough for 2 quads and welding/bolting to the main frame. I was thinking of puting an axle under it as well. I know you can not tow ball to ball but technically it would be part of the trailer, just an extension?? any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

I am pretty sure that if you place an axle that far back that you will tear something apart every time you turn. you would probably have to re-engineer the frame as you are changing the weight distribution big time. Two quads would add about a 1000 lbs plus the weight of the frame. You also have to look at the center of Mass so as to keep enough weight on the hitch to prevent the trailer from porpoising, which would be bad. I know what you want but I am afraid you really are better off buying a purpose built trailer.:twocents:

like it was said go buy a toy hauler.
i have seen it done, and know a guy that did it to haul 1 qaud across the back side ways , also tko on here did it for his side x side to sit back there but 2 qauds:eek::eek: would be heavy. add fuel as all you jerry cans and extra chit will get piled up there as well fire wood, chairs etc all adds up. the one guy i know that did it added a steerable axle in the back for support but it still didnt realy work as well as planned.
do it right sell the bumper pull and get a bumper pull toy hauler, at least with that in the morning after it rains all night when you leave to ride you ll be the one in the group with a dry azz:d

You would never be able to keep tires or axles on it, assuming you did get it attached to the existing frame.....

As stated "toy hauler"....

Seen a few equipment trailers with campers on the deck leaving space for the toys....

If you have a deck on the truck, leave the quads up there.....if the truck cant handle the deck, quads and trailer get a bigger truck...

I know it's easy to say....but get the right equipment for the job, ....

If you actually want to do it you could make the wheels pivot and that would solve the tire scrub problem. Second make sure you put the wheels in the right place so that you are not removing tongue weight from the trailer, you will need atleast 10% of the total trailer weight. Another sugestion would be to lenghten the trailer tongue to accomodate the quads, and that would also be alot of enginering.

another thought i just had as well is most of these units nowadays are near max gvw already throw another 1000 lbs on it and your lookin for trouble. do it right the first time save money time and possibly somebodys life.
just sayin man.
if you cant afford to do it right the firast time how can you afford to do it again when it breaks, assuming you dont kill anybody in the process.

Thanks for the advice guys, i had a feeling this may not be possible. I threw a pic up for the hell of it. Im just gonna sell my marathon and buy and short 6 ft crosstraxx deck and be done with it, just load a little smarter i guess. The big lifted truck doesnt do any favours for ramp angles. thanks again!!

yes as mentioned above, you would be better off adding the extension to the front then the rear. but adding an additonal 1000lbs to the tongue weight isnt good either because your axles wont be in the right place now. so ya sell it and buy a new set up!!

Despite being 8 miles high not a bad setup, something to consider though is that if you are camping where you have to take the ATVs out of the camp area you are kinda hooped. you just need to get those fold up ramps that will lessen the ramp angle.

You could always get one of these they work great.

SNOWMOBILE & ATV DECKS

That would probably be cheaper than all the work described above.

As for adding an axle to the trailer, that would be a real big NO GO. There are laws about axle spreads I would bet anything you would be WAY over the allowed axle spread. As for adding a deck to the front or rear your balance and hitch weight would be way out of whack without moving the axles.

Really you seem to have 3 options, 1st stick with what you have, 2nd look into the deck in the above link or 3rd, trade in the trailer for a toy hauler.
