Now that we've hammered out the math on this.... ;)

Say whatever you want, but we are now stuck with this government. It's a change, and human nature is to not like change. That's okay. But panicking and knee jerk reactions are going to cause way bigger problems than the NDP. Just my 2 cents. (or 2%)

We have to be realistically optimistic, otherwise, all this negativity will turn into a self fulfilling prophecy.

That being said I'm not high, nor am I sharing ;). I didn't vote for that jackazz Pretentious Prentice, but I did vote WRP. I do believe they will be a solid opposition.

Your theory is naive. How about corporations who sell their products primarily outside our borders, such as ...................... say, oil companies? They cant just "raise" prices therefor they have to cut costs to maintain their profit margins. That usually means employee's and sub contractors take the hit. A reverse backlash. Contractors and employees hit by higher tax's and being pushed for cutbacks. A very bad combination.

I forgot there is no other industry in Alberta but O&G.

O'Leary is the most negative fear monger out there. He's a gigantic douche at the best of times. If he thinks there's no money left to be made in alberta he can leave what's on the table for other venture capitalists.

FWIW - the NDP has not promised they would raise the royalties. They said they'd review them. That means SFA. Could mean increase. Could mean decrease. Most likely means no change.

Notley isn't an idiot. She seems to be a smart articulate woman, with a pedigree in politics - her father was the first NDP chair holder in alberta. She's not going to bite the hand that feeds and slit our throats. That's not good for anyone - her included!

BNN - Watch TV Online | I wouldn't invest in NDP's Alberta: O'Leary

Stop whining, maybe you'll only have 1 new turbo next year or only have a budget of $30000 to spend on sledding, maybe only go on 15 sled trips instead of 20. Your sky is falling rhetoric is just silly, its alarmists like you that would worry what some self serving moron like oleary would write. He cares not about you, me or Alberta, his comments are worth nothing, designed to further his financial interests, so good riddance to him, we'll all be better off without his involvement. And if this change in government, good or bad yet to be seen, scares you so much, your past financial planning maybe was maybe not stellar.

Saw this today.... Interesting.

I didn't say she's not NDP, just saying she's inherited this province in a fawk of a mess and let's give her the benefit of the doubt (and 48 months) to try and right this ship.

Wow there are some thick headed people on here who dont have a clue about business.

If the rate goes from 10% to 12% that is a 2 point (%) increase in the rate.

So using the $100 formula as previously stated, my business would go from paying $10 per $100 profit to paying $12 per $100 in profit.

That is a $2 increase over every $10 I used to have to pay. That is a TWENTY PERCENT increase in the amount I had to pay.

For those who have trouble figuring out percentages grab your calculator, hit the 2 key, the hit the divide key, the hit 10 then hit equal. That comes out to .20 which is 20%. Ask any accountant, it is a 20% increase in what you have to pay.

Look at it this way, if your making $10 per hour and get a 20% increase, you get an extra $2 per hour. Its the same math.

Sorry your math is wrong. $10 on a $100 to $12 on a $100 is a 2% increase. From $2 on on $10 is 20%.

So it appears that the Conservatives between 2003 and present were able to reduce corporate taxes another 3%. How is that a bad thing. It is somewhat irrelevant what corporate taxes were in 2003. In my mind what is relevant is that they are currently 10% and the NDP propose to increase them to 12%. The only relevance to me in quoting the 2003 figure is to show me that the previous government continued to reduce corporate taxes between 2003 and present to create a better business environment. Now that good work will end with the NDP bumping them back up again. If that Facebook post was meant to convince me that the NDP are not to be concerned about it has done the exact opposite for me. Thanks Matthew Yeo for convincing me that it was a mistake to bring the NDP into power. In the short term I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt.

Maybe its good the NDP got in, it appears Alberta's school system needs some help.

I used to pay 10 dollars, I now pay 12 dollars, that is a 20% increase in what I have to pay. Its pretty darn simple.

Your math using 10 is right. You started by saying $10 on a $100 to $12 on a $100. Now your using $10. What numbers do want to use?????

Wow, reading comprehension is also something derived from education.

100 dollars is the amount the company EARNED. 10 dollars is the amout that company has to PAY. With the increased tax rate the company would then have to PAY 12 dollars. That is 2 dollars MORE than they previously PAID. The 100 dollars is the base the tax is CALCULATED on. It is only used to determine how much you pay.

In the most simple terms, you previously paid 10 dollars, you now pay 12 dollars, that is a 20 percent increase in what you pay.

If you have 100 sleds and you give your buddy 10 sleds you gave him 10% of your sleds. Next year you give him 12 sleds. You gave him 12% of your sleds. That's 2%
