Local Texas man took his life with a rifle @ the NRA500. Image nra/nascar doesnt want that to make mainstream media. Sad for the poor guy that had enough of life.

Word on Jayski's this morning is the reason the 2 and 22 cars were checked by Nascar is that the 48 and 24 team ratted them out after parking next to them in the garage area. I guess it takes a cheater to see a cheater.

Dont expect to see penalties today for the 2 and 22 's infractions from last weekend as the Penske #2 team and Nascar will be at the whitehouse today for the annual Obama meets the champion visit. Penalties should come tomorrow morning.

So, me and the mrs were talking yesterday, and she suggested going to Vegas next spring for my birthday to see the race, I says ," Awesome!" . Then I says, to get the complete experience, a guy needs to go to the Richard Petty school, oddly enough, she agrees. Now I know a few of you guys have done this, my question is , how much was it, and did you have to book a long ways in advance....oh, and what all do you get with the course?

Well Woody you are gonna love this. You should try and book as soon as you can to get the best date to coincide with your visit to Vegas. They will not run this race weekend so you should go to RPM's site to look at dates asap. You can do a number of packages. The Rookie Experience, the King's Experience are your more economical bets. The Rookie is an 8 lap adventure and is in that $400 range if I remember right. The Kings is an $800-$900 for 18 laps. At my last session it was slow so they gave us the option for an extra 12 laps for $199. Do what you can afford but if they give you a deal like that take it. That is cheap laps. The more you spend the faster you get to go if you look confident to the instructor out his rear view mirror. You start with a school and a trip around the track in a van to give you some instruction from the instructors. If you can I HIGHLY RECOMMEND taking the 3 lap ride along with a professional driver for $99. Its worth it to get in the car and gain the trust of the car at higher speeds than you will be going when it is your turn to drive. It also helps for just acclimatizing yourself to the noise, the environment and the heat. Petty personnel will take lots of pics and give you the opportunity after your experience to buy them on nice plaques for a fee. You will also get a computer printout of your lap times. Always stay close to the instructor on the last lap as that will be your fastest and best for buddy bragging rights. Lol. And when you get out the instructor will give you a critique on your driving and how you can improve your line. Feel free to ask me more if you have anymore questions Woody!

Just did that this year. Watched the race on Sunday, raced myself on Monday. I did the Kings Experience, 18 laps total with an instructor in the right seat, no pace car. Cost was around US$900, worth every cent. Rookie experience, 8 laps, was around $450ish.
Starts out with a 1 hour orientation, safety rules, track videos, etc. Suit up and wait your turn after that, all the while thinking how stupid you are going to look if you stall leaving pit road. They have quite a few cars so the wait isn't that long.
Once you're in and buckled up,its time to go for it.
Guy in the right seat has a dial on his right hand, numbered 1-10. Start out in #5 and holy ch!t, this thing hauls ass. Knock off a few laps and try to get over the massive camber built into these cars. Let loose on the wheel for a second on the straight away and you're going hard left in a hurry.
Guy moves switch to #6, noticeable change. 2 more laps, #7, woah mamma this thing is sick.
Complete 8 laps and pit. Almost ready to puke at this point, combination of g-force and adrenalin I guess. Sit and chat for about 15 minutes, talk about lines, acceleration, braking, etc.
Head back out and get up speed pretty quick. Guy switches from 7-8 and that car exploded out of the corners, unreal how those guys can do this for 500 miles. Few more laps trying to hit my marks and he ups it one more time for the last lap. Absolutely incredible how these cars stick to the track. Top speed on last lap was 143mph, the pros doing the ride alongs were hitting 160ish.
Do it, you will have a ball. Anytime I'm at a track in the next 2 years I get a $200 discount and anyone with me can do a 3 lap ride along for $79. Can't wait to do it again.

They have changed it in the last year. In my 3 previous experiences I was in the car alone and shadow drived the instructor in the car ahead of me. This sounds more like what the Dale Jarrett school does.

I did a much smaller track a few years ago with the pace car in front. The driver of that car was a little pissed at me for trying to pass him:chatterbox:

HaHa passing is a no no. Also instuctor told us no smoking tires taking off on pit lane. Said this is not the John Force driving school and would be doing 1 very expense lap around Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Lmao!!

Penalties have been announced by Nascar for 3 teams this morning from the Texas race.

The 56 team was docked 6 points for being to low after the race. There crewchief was fined $25000 and was put on probation.
The 2 and 22 teams were docked 25 points each and there 2 crewchiefs were fined $100000 each and suspended from 6 Nascar points races as well as the All Star Race. They are also on probation until Dec31st. Only the Penske teams are appealing.

This is different than when I did it, there was a pace car but this sounds like more fun! I think i got up to 142mph when I went. It would have been cool to do a ride along before driving as you find yourself wondering just how much grip this car actually has... it has tons and tons you are never close to pushing it past its limit. The driving "coaching" I got was pretty weak, not what I was expecting. Basically the guy just came over to the car and says brake a little sooner into that corner or harder on the gas earlier out of that corner or stay up on the pace car more etc. Now that I've done it and know what to exect I would definitely do it again.

that penalty for Penske seems over the top, i guess Nascar really doesnt anyone messing with this gen 6 car.

Yeah they said in the wording that the parts aren't illegal. They were not presented to Nascar beforehand for approval. Pretty expensive booboo. No?

i am sorry but if they didnt break a rule i think nascar's decision sucks, there have been many examples of this kind of stuff and i cant recall such an extreme penalty. i hope they win the appeal, maybe they should hire whoever JJ used to win their appeal

In that matter JJ lost the appeal to the board(Buddy Baker, et al) and that decision was overturned by the chairman who happened to be a personal friend of Rick Hendrick's and past president of General Motors. We would need for Edsel Ford to oversee this appeal process. HaHa.

Wow, I think that is a slightly extreme penalties for penske. I don't see how with that kind of BS ruling they can lose the appeal. Hell with that kind of punishment, why don't they just say penske is expelled from NASCAR forever. Its about that ridiculous!
