Bad day for the 78 Team. Loose wheel at the end of a caution and had to come back to change right sides, only to get a tire violation penalty. Didn`t clinch the points race last night, but one more stage win would almost do it.

Number switcheroo at Hendrick next year. William Byron will drive the 24 car and Chase Elliott will be rocking his dad's old number the 9.

Its throwback weekend in Darlington for the Southern 500. Lots of cool paint schemes celebrating the great history of Nascar. Here were the results from practice 1: 42-11-2-17-4-5-24-20-41-31

Denny Hamlin makes a huge comeback after a pit road mistake and runs down the leaders on fresh tires to win the Southern 500 tonight. Here is how it shook out: 11-18-41-3-77-20-31-78-4-1. Truex wins both stages to win the regular season championship.

Chase Standings with one race to go next weekend in Richmond: 78-42-48-18-11-2-17-4-21-41-31-5-3-24-20-1. These cars are locked in unless someone other than one of the above cars wins Richmond.

NBC Sports reporting that Subway has pulled there sponsorship of the 19 car because Daniel Suarez appeared in a Dunkin' Donuts commercial. They must be a direct competitor of Subway? Anybody ever been in a Dunkin Donuts store?

88 car caught with missing lug nuts after the race. Jr will lose his crew chief for a few races. Maybe thats a good thing?

Oh oh....................................Hamlin's win at Darlington encumbered. Unapproved mounting of the rear suspension. Win doesn't count, Crew Chief fined $50,000 and suspended for 3 races and deduction of 25 owner and driver championship points.

Final practice in the books and Logano finds speed as he needs a win bad: 42-22-19-78-20-17-2-41-24-11. No concerns for tomorrow night as Hurricane Irma will be only making landfall in Florida when the race is run.

Lots of concern in the Nascar community on how well Homestead will fair with Hurricane Irma. Could be lots of repairs and rebuilding done before the season finale. Grandstands could get obliterated.

Nice to see someone beat Kyle Busch in an Xfinity race and it happened tonight when Bad Brad put on a show weaving through traffic to run him down late for the win. Best burnout of the year as he did a burnout around the NBC truck and Ruttledge Wood.
