So how is Nafta going for Canada? So far the Media has it both ways, America is not including Canada in the talks and Canada is refusing talks with US. They cannot even tell the truth on this simple subject. So how is Nafta going to work for Canada if no one is talking?

Mexico and the USA will come to an agreement and Canada will be left with Trudeau and that weeble cristia freeland standing there with stupid looks on their face, all because they’re too gutless to allow supply management into the mix and piss off the Quebec and Ontario farmers. Everyone trading with the USA better realize that the Americans don’t care about anybody’s economy except their own. If your country can flange up with the states and reach an agreement, good for you. If, like Canada, you take the position that the states has to meet your requirements, you’re in for a shock, as we in Canada are about to find out.

We are rapidly approaching third world country status.

makes no sense to include supply management. Every country has a barrier on agriculture of some sort. Supply management costs taxpayers nothing.

I prefer the open market generally. Supply management has stabilized the Canadian farmers for milk production at a cost to the Canadian consumer. As far as I can tell, the US free market system continues to squeeze out the little guys and favours deep pocket farming corporations. When all of the small farmers are bankrupt and most of the farm land is in the hands of seven or eight rich families, then they will raise the price. Both systems suck.

Softwood lumber is a thorn in the US side as 73 % is corporately owned and they want to make more money. The answer is to buy your congressman to force a tariff on Canadian lumber because stumpage fees are not high enough in Canada.

Corporate America are the guys driving this and Trump loves those guys even more than the previous governments. Getting rid of pollution laws that really weren't effective enough in the first place to stop major pollution events. Not that Canada has done very well in the past but it is getting better as was the US.

It will take years to come back from this in both countries.

Canada won't be cutting down trees much longer.

There are green and they consume carbon.
Amazed the liberals are not more outraged by deforestation.

It seems to be headed that direction. I wonder how much of the environmental movement (it isn't all bad by the way) is funded by American Corporations under the table. Canadian oil: BAD. American oil and oil from Arabia: Good. You gotta wonder.

Honest to f*ck I swear that political manipulation by certain rich individuals and corporations is getting out of hand. I find particlarly annoying an American Corporation taking a stance against a Canadian initiative while they ignore all of the legitimate problems they have.

Going to pound fenceposts as therapy.

please explain which admin costs. Also show where it costs more than the normal difference we pay on almost everything over the US. Australia punted supply management in 2000. Price has gone up every year on milk at the same rate before supply management. All getting rid of supply management does is take the money and give it to the retailer. Prices don’t go down when there’s over supply. BSE is prime example, obviously not supply management, but the retail price on beef never changed, in fact it went up when the price plummeted.

Don't kid yourself, any government administration isn't free.
I don't have the exact figures, but I will go out on a limb and say it isn't free.

Some info on supply management. Lots of misinformation comes from the media. The idea that it costs consumers more isn’t true. Particularly when you take into account the subsidies other countries pay. US farm bill last month was another huge round of susidies

That article proves my point. Says 50% of input costs are covered by US taxpayers. That’s why the milk is cheaper. Has nothing to do with supply management. There is no govt admin. There are boards setup that govern and are paid for by levies of the producers.

I don’t know how to paste the link, but national post has an article how the head of US dairy wants Trump to leave Canada alone and they’d like to implement their own supply management because in his words, it works

That’s the part the news never reports. Every time Canada make the requirement the US drop their subsidies, they walk away from the table.
