I can live with that. To have the wealth to buy an electric car means you have a job, and a reasonably well paying one so therefore pay income tax, pay GST on the purchase price, GST on the electricity, GST on the tires and maintenance. That's all we need is another tax. There is a tax problem in Canada, some definitely don't pay their share, but the problem sure as f@ck isn't the working middle class with electric cars.

as for virtually every other decent car owner out there. As I said earlier, the electric car crowd thinks their **** dont stink and are a notch above the rest. You wanna play, thats ok, but pay your way, passing it off dont sit well with me.

Subtract from all the GST you pay (similar to what a fossil fuel car driver would pay) the subsidy you get when you buy the car, and subsidized electricity rate you pay at the charging station given that the cost of installing them is paid for by someone other than the user.

In BC the actual road tax portion is 6.75 cents per liter, the rest goes to provincial and federal general revenue.
Not sure you are understanding. It isn't just road tax. If everyone switched to electric, the govt will expect to collect all the missing tax revenue from somewhere, not just the road tax.

So why is petrocanada installing fast dc charging along the trans canada highway? Why is canadian tire building chargers? How about charge point? Electrify America/Canada? Flo? BC Hydro? Charging is a revenue stream. You sell someone 1kWh for $0.25 and you buy it for $0.10. Or even better, you make the power yourself with solar.

There is always going to be something to debate or argue about. 10 years from now there will be a thread about how many sleds can you get on a electric half ton and the debate will be if the Ford can out pull the Chevy and will the dodge have electric flip out mirrors. Good on the people who have purchased a EV and use them as intended.

I find it truly hilarious that all the people from the climate change deniers thread jump in here talking about carbon footprints.

If you're referring to me, well yes I do believe the climate is changing as it always has been. What I don't like is unnecessary pollution caused by mining,manufacturing and shipping around the world to make/deliver these batteries. When I see garbage in a staging area or up on a mountain I dislike that too but it does not mean that that garbage is causing climate change. A carbon footprint can mean wasted fuel, pollution, etc and can be related to or unrelated to climate change.

If the battery has a life of 300,000 to 500,000 miles and then ends up getting recycled (grid storage/precious metals) it is still a net positive.

1 million mile battery should be out in the next 12-18 months.

There’s no easy way to recycle lithium ion batteries currently. The different methods are all environmentally unfriendly, require large energy expenditures and/or multiple chemical processes that create toxic waste.
Building these batteries require large energy expenditures and recycling them does as well. Hardly a “green” product.

Current batteries have a lifespan that makes that impossible for 99.99% of owners. They may last that long in people putting on that many miles in a short time (still don't believe that lifespan), but virtually all batteries are dead in 5-10 years max depending on application. Unless Tesla has some magic battery making factory that makes better batteries then every other company on the planet.

Some manufacturers have several steps in their battery manufacturing where the raw materials and components get shipped all around the world for various steps towards the end product. This is currently the least expensive way to manufacture but I am sure that it can't be the best way. Like I said it is just a matter of time. I would like to see these manufacturers work toward being B-Corp certified. Has anyone heard of B-Corp?

What don't you believe about a 300 mile range battery rated for 1500 cycles? 300 x 1500 = 450,000.
They actually do have a battery factory that makes better batteries than everyone else. It's called the Gigafactory 1.

  • Model S and Model X – 8 years (with the exception of the original 60 kWh battery manufactured before 2015, which is covered for a period of 8 years or 200,000 km, whichever comes first).
  • Model 3 - 8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period.
  • Model 3 with Long-Range Battery - 8 years or 192,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period.
These warranties cover the repair or replacement necessary to correct defects in the materials or workmanship of any parts manufactured or supplied by Tesla, which occur under normal use.

So when Cummins tests their diesel engine until failure they just set the warranty at 1km before the engine blows up?

You claim 450,000 mile life on the battery, but how many times has this been proven real world?

I would say that Tesla is proving their technology.

Cummins has millions of engines on the road no question there. But they also have how many in the shop getting replaced or rebuilt? I've seen new ones not make it 3 months
