Depends how full you fill the Super B's

I'm not sure how much a 9 hour stop would use. In 5 years of driving to Revelstoke my longest stop was 6 hours for an accident.
75000Wh battery pack. Lets say at Rogers I have 40000Wh left. If my heating used 1000Wh (this is WAY high) I would have 40 hours of heat. If it was really bad I would just turn around and charge instead of sitting there waiting.

My sister just bought a 2018 Jetta for about 34000 and that car gets around 6.5l per 100km. I would have a hard time justifying and extra 45000$ for a less equipped vehicle. In some form or another your still burning oil to get the power to your car. So assuming that you don’t pay anything for power and gas cost was 1.30$ per litre you would have to drive about 500000km to pay for that extra 45000. I just don’t see the economics in buying a Tesla yet. Now if I could get a diesel electric truck with an electric motor at each wheel that could be independently controlled that would be wicked. Thanks for sharing your experience with this. I really find this whole electric vehicle thing interesting.

With 500km range and 1 hour charging spaced 160km apart what purpose would a generator serve?

In what ways do you find the 2018 Jetta superior?

I have about 500km already. Lots of my friends are excited to see it and I will definitely be letting them drive it. I have a friend that is a geologist on the rigs and spends a lot of his time driving. He drove it about 30km (about half city and half highway driving). His first impressions were he liked the big screen in the middle. Commented about how comfortable the seat was. Surprised at how aggressive the car slowed down when he let off the accelerator. Creepy how silent and smooth it felt. Was very uncomfortable with autopilot taking the first turn on the highway but after that he seemed a little less scared of it. I told him to hit the turn signal so he could see how the auto lane change works. Happy with the acceleration (had a SRT-10 Dodge ram in the past). Hopefully he uses my referral code ha ha.

Could buy a Volt, Leaf etc if ones purpose was a cheaper electric car, Tesla is a different cut of buyer.

Like most of us here, I’m a bit of a motor head, I love horsepower and pretty much anything with an engine. Having said that I’m really curious and interested in Tesla EV’s. I’d love to try one out one day and I can see a lot of upsides to them.

I do think that our electricity infrastructure will need to change to make them as environmentally friendly as they’re portrayed by our media, but I do believe it’s possible.

I’d love to see a larger adoption of hybrid vehicles using the technologies that Tesla and others have been pioneering, like the nano capacitors that were posted in a link above, regenerative braking, and others. It’ll be interesting to see what the near future bring us.

Thanks for the post. I'm eeally interested in hearing updates as you get more time behind the wheel. I'd like to know how it handles winter as well, especially how the cold and heater affect range.

It works awesome in snow, expect 10% less range for every 10c drop from 20C.

Hows the AWD work from a sporty perspective, does it tend toward oversteer understeer etc. With each wheel driven independently and electronics out the whazoo it should be the best handling AWD out there. If they have it programmed correctly.

It hits 120k in a very short distance, you can sure feel the power. And the motors kind of jake brake which is nice on ice.

In what ways do you find the 2018 Jetta superior?

I was just comparing a similar sized car as someone stated a Tesla 3 was about the size of a Jetta. My sister has one and it’s pretty trimmed out for interior and options and such and it was only around 34000. That was all I was getting at.

Doing my first real trip today. Lethbridge to St. Albert. Pretty warm here down south but I think it will be more winter like conditions when we get to Edmonton area. Roughly 543km from doorstep to doorstep.
