Yeah those are pretty good points. I think in 2 years having an EV will be more realistic for that location. I wouldn’t have done it either if it wasn’t for the supercharger network.
Our plan when we bought her truck was to replace it with an EV when we were done with it, having a Tesla in mind, but we expected at least 5 years life out of it, not the 18 months we are on now.
The current gen of non plug in Rav4 hybrids are rated at 6.0L/100km combined economy, the Prime with its estimated 18kwh battery should do better than that. On top of that according to a 2017 EPA paper the 2.5L Atkinson cycle engine in the Rav4 and Rav4 Prime is rated at up to 40% thermal efficiency, the best gas engine they had tested up to that point.
