The issue is a very high percentage of people do not have a designated parking stall they can simply have available for a charge station. Heck, all it takes is for you to come home and find your wife has 3 of her friends over for a tupperware party blocking your spot so you park on the street, knowing you have to go out after the party to move your car later. Then you decided to drink that bottle of scotch you have been saving to ease the pain of the tupperware conversation and fall asleep, forgetting to move your car. You wake up with a car that will not make it to work/school/vacation/whatever.

It wouldn't take more than a few times before that would get very old.

Your wife’s friends should have some respect for your charging spot ;)

Rolled over 20,000km recently. Maintenance so far has been washer fluid and adjusting tire pressure.
Did a 430km trip on the weekend and only used 60kWh (140wh/km).

the wife asked me about going to an EV for her next vehicle. I thought "man, she's really into this green thing"...until the told me the best parking spots at work are the EV designated spots with free charging right close to the doors. win win

For now. It only takes 3 people in the company to get these things and start fighting over the 2 chargers.

We need battery stations set up like gas stations. Simply drive in and a battery-jockey uses a pallet jack under your car to remove your battery and then replace it with a charged battery. All manufacturers using the same design. You only pay for what you have used out of the battery in case some are better than others. The change should take no longer than filling with gasoline. Now you are on your way. Charging yourself becomes optional.

I strongly disagree. Battery swap is not a good idea. Tesla tried it in California and no one was interested. Nio is doing it in China but it looks to be much more expensive and complicated.

Also charging at work off a simple 120v 15amp circuit would give you enough juice to drive 70km if you were plugged in for 10 hours. Would be 14kWh roughly.

But Johnny, wouldn't you like to have the option? Only more expensive because all manufacturer's have not put their heads together for a universal design.

Fast charging at 250kw will give you 180miles in 15minutes. Simple plug in. I see way too many moving parts and design complexity in the battery swap. Not sure I want someones used and abused battery, would rather keep the one I have as I know how it has been treated. It would be sort of like a construction site having everyone throw their cordless tool batteries into a giant bin at the end of the day for charging and then getting a random charged battery in the morning.

she works at the school they just finished building last year. it is a multiplex deal (2 schools, arena, etc) with a huge parking lot. it has at least a dozen EV charging stalls, we've never seen a single charging space being utilized yet. there's always people parked in them though, nice and close to the entrance.

got her to spec one out that she would drive, certainly not cheap. cool factor is high though.

Has anyone seen the specs on the model Y, that’s the one I priced out but it won’t be available for a while.

Range will be 8-10% less than the model 3. It's bigger and heavier. Probably won't see a model Y delivery until late this year or early next year.

Yeah. The cargo room looks impressive with the hatch and seats folded down as well. One thing I don’t like about the model 3 is the trunk opening isn’t very big. There is a ton of cargo space inside but for taller items it can be tricky.

We have been considering getting an electric car, looked at and test drove a Bolt. I was actually impressed by it. A full size gas pick, and a small electric car would cover all of our needs.

I have never driven a Bolt but if it’s anything like the Volt it is a great EV! What are your charging plans for home?

Same here, my Duramax and an electric car would have us covered.
