Seems like most peeps wear a lot of black out there...and it's not easy to see sometimes either - I was lost for a long time in a very visible spot and was in black and pink, pretty visible if you just looked at me but not in the bush when it's snowing apparently. I love color and totally agree the brighter and more visible we are out there the better in many ways. But, on that note I'm still guilty of buying my gear based on what I like and the colors I want to wear. So, although perhaps I should, I don't choose my gear color to save my ass out there, but if it does, fabulous! :d

I agree with bad to be in all black. I rode with about 10 guys onblack XM's and in all black gear, friggin couldn't tell one from the other, hard to count to keep track of the group too! I love my 509 helmet but to be honest, I miss my bright @$$ green Gmax people could ALWAYS spot me with that on lol.

Gears lookin good mama! Excited for it to be launched and try-on-able. But that said I've already got so much frickin money invested into gear, mostly mens lines, that it'll be hard to drop more big money for this stuff. Might hafta kijiji it up with some of my existing gear perhaps.

GREEEEEN! = wicked color. Never go wrong with black (for a looks/cleanliness type idea.. but i get what others are saying about visibility in trees etc)... What about a blue? or something in the yellow world.. OR NEON type shades EEEee That could be super cool in yellow or green or orange

I'm totally guilty of it too Tam!! I had the unfortunate responsibility of watching two friends in two separate avalanches last year, and it is hard enough to keep a line of site on someone wearing bright colours.

Trish, if you are helping Motorfist with R and D, it might be a good idea to point out some of people's concerns to them, but I'm sure you already have I'm not saying not to buy it, but the companies that are marketing gear to people that ride in avalanche terrain should be aware of the safety issues.

Thanks for the photo, I haven't seen that one before. Not my only set of gear, and yes it was at a social event, not riding in avy terrain. I mostly wear the grey one around town, my other jacket is bright blue

We have to remember that not all sledders ride in the mountains and avalanche terrain. I'm sure the white will be super popular with those folk, but I agree that colour is key. Plus it shows up so much better in photos.
Why do you think TOBE gear has taken off so much in the last couple years. Well styled gear that just plain works, and if you take a look at their 2014 line, they have added a ton of gear to the line up, and dropped their prices a bunch.
It's great to see a company like Motorfist marketing a line for the ladies. It looks good, looking forward to seeing what the colour options are.

Soooo tired of having to fight so hard for decent and fun gear to wear that actually fits. It's such crap. We women are in the mountains and we control the wallets so make us some GD gear we want to pay for and actually wear!!

I had to sew six inches of cordura onto my Tall Klim Pants and I am wearing a bright pink O'neill jacket that is not near as reliable/durable/weatherproof as Motorfist or Klim gear but at least fits my arm length and looks good.

Haven't we had this conversation like ten-teen times before??? Sigh... Here's hoping MF has some nice colors to add to this lineup!!!

I fully believe it is a wonderful time to be a female rider. The companies are listening to us, so not only do we have functionality, we have style. I've seen some pretty epic gear at the store. I am of course super excited about this New Contessa Line up. VERY excited!!.
We also carry Klim. There are a few things I think are awesome in their women's line up. Nice color selection, and great quality. Absolutely LOVE the color purple they have for their Alpine Parka and think their gloves and Mitts are very well thought out. People's brand choice is a very personal thing, and women are very particular about their clothing for certain. We have the ability to shape what we ultimately will be wearing through situations such as this. An open forum discussing what is important to us, is not only educational and supportive for fellow female riders, but you can bet that the manufacturers keep a close eye on what is being said. It's nice that product development is advancing from year to year. Subtle changes can mean the world.
My main priority right now with the contessa gear is to test it out and see how it moves, feels and stands up. I'm really enjoying this and feel blessed to be a part of the Motorfist family. Kind of sureal actually. My kids are LOVING this too. For when mom moves into other gear, they get the other stuff!! Brookie and Leo both are fighting over my trophy jacket! lol
I have tremendous gratitude for the opportunities in my life for sure. Thank you everyone for your feedback. It really does help!

Like SledMamma, I'm also tired of seeing very limited choices in women's sled gear! I liked the durability/warmth/dryness of my Klim gear but black is soooooo boring. Since my sled is all black, it was just too much. Bought a ToBe coat about a month ago, although it's a mens, I do have to put up with the long arms and big shoulders, but I love the bright color and the durability of this coat. If this new Motorfist line offers other bright colors it will be a big seller.....really looks like nice fitting gear for sure! I just don't understand why the other gear manufacturers haven't jumped on the bandwagon yet!

You are right, sledding isn't a fashion show, but neither is driving a vehicle, and people still buy cars (and sleds) in the colour they prefer, that is why there are colour options. Black is just as much of a liability as white is. It is not easy to see in the trees, and even in a pile of white snow, black doesn't stand out as a person (could be a tree, or rock, or just dirt).

Ya i checked out the TOBE website after Wilkins mentioned it and was disappointed to see NO womens gear in the 2014 collection, nor any half pants in it. The 2012-2013 collection has some of both but limited styles etc. For now I'll stick with my Klim & MF gear but look forward to the new MF lineup!

Thats a lil different but whatever, I spend $50,000 on a vehicle I want exactly what I want, but to complain because they don't have all sorts of colour options and fits and styles etc is pretty lame, gear is gear, I would rather great quality gear at a decent price and have a good size selection then have Klim make 8 different colour options for the pre-madonnas out there. A lot of dealers have a problem keeping a good selection of sizes and quantities in Klim and motor-fist gear, now add a bunch more colours to the mix and now they gotta carry 6 or 8x as many just to be able to please everyone, sounds pretty stupid to me, having a few different models ranging from low end to high end with a couple colour options helps better ensure gear being available for the consumer at most times without having to order stuff in, which sometimes takes weeks or even over a month

I'm pretty sure they do have women's gear in there, they have just done a terrible job of separating them out. I'm pretty sure the Chical and Chanta are women's jackets (based on the cut) but not great colour options. The Actic pant is convertible. You can zip the top portion off to create a half bib that zips into the powder skirt of some of the jackets. But they are cut and sized for males. I think with TOBE ramping things up we could expect more from them in the future that is geared towards women. They just need to grow their market. For now, that Motorfist line-up looks great for women.

I totally understand what you are saying. I worked years in a ski shop, and the amount of gear left at the end of the year was ridiculous. A lot of it was just colours or styles that we thought would sell but didn't. That being said, I stayed away from Klim and Motorfist because I wanted something with more colour. I guess that makes me a prima donna, but I found a really good set of gear that works, fits and looks great in TOBE. I was in Mountain Motorsports, in Golden, at the beginning of February, and I was talking to Kim about their gear. She said she just sold their last piece of TOBE gear the day before, and the only thing left on their racks was black Klim and Motorfist gear.
I for one am very happy that there are companies out there starting to make gear that is a little more colourful, and it's even better to see these companies starting to cater more to the women in the sport. Humans love to express their own style and individuality, and even though sledding isn't a fashion show, some people don't want to blend into a sea of black. Why do you think so many people put custom wraps on their sleds.

I think we have to consider safety from another aspect too. We've discussed Color, and what we'd like to see, I now want to talk about function. I had a very enlightening discussion with a Good friend of mine named Bart. He is Extremely High up in SAR an ex special forces peep, a covert weapon specialist, and basically a superhero in my mind. I always joke that he is "the most interesting man in the world" In my mind he is. He has spent much time in Extreme conditions so his words I took in the highest regard. Here's where the functionality becomes a safety issue.
Women need to have gear that they can easily get in and out of when they have to go pee. Men.. you have it made, a couple zippers and off you go.. us, not so much... Some women avoid going pee by not drinking throughout the day. This can become a life threatening situation. Insert Hypothermia. Dehydration is a major factor in hypothermia. If your blood volume is normal, your body can circulate blood to all your muscles and viscera to keep your body functioning properly. As the blood volume decreses, chilled blood from your extremities start to cool your core organs. This triggers a reflex that reduces the flow of blood to your hands and feet arms and legs ears nose.. pretty much everything that is susceptible to frost bite. All because the person is trying to avoid Peeing. It can happen quickly in the winter cold. A machine down, having to walk out, lost or injured, hypothermia is a deadly but real truth in Winter recreation.
Drop seat bibs are easier than regular bibs where you have to take off all your gear to get the shoulders out, then pile it all up so you can pee peacfully. I prefer pants personally, makes it quick and easy to get the job done. I'm glad the manufacturers are listening to us.
