'04 Yukon with a 5.3L. Just looking for a little more power out of the daily driver. Has anyone had tried a chip/tuner and or air intake system with this engine. If so what brand and thoughts. A little off topic for this site but there seems to be alot of general knowledge around here.
Cheers

I have heard from more then a few people that the tunners for gasoline engines is a waste of money. An engine is more or less a pump and the more efficient you can make it work the better your power and the better your fuel economy. So a cold air intake, spacer and cat back exhaust will be the best thing you can do for your Yuk. If you want to get more then headers, synth. oil, hotter spark plugs will all help out.

i get a new truck on average every 6 months as i am a sales manager at a chevrolet store. I have done gm cold air intake, gm cat back performance exhaust on my last couple, and it does make a difference, and sounds cool. i bought the programmer from raven truck accesories on yellowhead, and they said that they sell a few of them to guys with the gm 5.3 litre. i noticed a huge difference in how it shifted, way crisper now. and it took out the speed limiter which made me very happy, and upped the rpms. I did a little research and went with a company that if anything happend to the truck, if gm wouldn't honour the warranty, they would back me up.

oh yeah fuel milage, with my last one i drove from creston b.c. to my door stop in castle wood on one tank of gas and that truck had 4.10s exhaust and intake, no chip. i don't really notice a difference in milage, i always put premium in, and with how good my truck sounds i find myself on the gas a little more then maybe i should be!!!

you know what the scarry thing is, my truck looks like crow's. if you go to the classified and look at the fusion i have advertised there, there is a pic of my truck when i just got the sled this past summer. only diff is mine is a chev. they will fight for you in court against the manufacturer. i hope it would never come to that, especially with me being a dealer, but it is nice to know they are on you side. i just love the way it shifts now.
how do you like those gm 6" tube steps?? are those not the best ones!!
how have you liked the truck so far? what trim level is yours??

i think it may run through you onstar mast, and it loads all the maps from a disc that stays in the thing. i can check, just pm me your serial number and i'll get one the guys in the back to look it up. I would also try to somehow get ahold of gm if it is a gm one you bought because they will send you a new updated map disc every two years.

I've got the air intake, magnaflow stainless exhaust and use the diablo motorsports performance tune in my avalanche with a 5.3. I know it works because I have another avalanche (wifes) that is completely stock and the tuned one is head and shoulders more powerfull now. Gas mileage only suffers when you got your foot in it which is hard to control because I love the roar. But, when your in control, there is no difference in fuel mileage. The computer still reads the same mileage when it was stock. Just alot more power. Don't let anyone tell you that you'll get better mileage.....ain't gonna happen. Do it only for the power and sound. Total cost was around $1500 for everything. Cheap way to get 50 H.P.

Wester's Garage in Tilley AB. They can custom tune an ECM for you to accommodate any other mod's you may already have done. I had one on my 01 4.8L, it would churp the tires when it shifted into 2nd gear. I had a hypertech on it before and it was garbage! With there ECM it gained just about 30HP proved on a dyno!
