Mixing diesel oil weights

Run good stuff Trashy. Diesel motors ain't cheap.
Thanks Ken, and I do know that too. One day very soon I'll turn 130K, so I am in no need for a new one and I have to keep this one up. What do you run in your Ford?

Got to UFA buy some 5-40 synthetic from Chevron, cheap and good. I've used it for over 850K in a couple different trucks. Buy the Fleetguard Stratopor filter while you are there.

Not a fan of snake oil additives but this stuff works: Truck&B=Diesel

I run 15/40 Motorcraft right from the dealers drum. Run 15/40 Deere Plus 50 in my Deere's. Always been a fan of manufacturer oil for whatever I run Doug.

In full agreement here this stuff works.. best chance to make a 6.0 a runner

I am a believer of factory made for factory, but I bought my truck used from my old employer in Edm in 07. While it was still on warranty, I just did what I had to doo to keep warranty. Since it's been off, I have using CT 10/30 in the winter and 15/40 in the summer

Biggest thing is 10w30 in a diesel is bad around here.

One chinook day and 30 isn't think enough hot.

Needs 40 for a reason

On a side note, do you guys tarp in the bottom like we used to on the old trucks? I noticed on my 13 RAM the oil pan and bottom end is pretty exposed to the elements. I think I'm going to stick a vw tdi oil pan heater to the sump to go along with the block or whatever heater these new ones come with, cant hurt right? and I can get em for free.

Shell Rotella T6 Syn 15/40 summer with pulling trailer. Shell Rotella T6 Syn 5/40 for winter. I do notice a big difference in how the truck starts, runs and even sounds. There are claims that 5/40 will give you better mileage as well.

I believe you can mix various weights of oil together as long as the base stocks are similar. Fully synthetic manufacturers like Redline, Royal Purple will also tell you their products can be mixed with conventionals. Shell has a great tech line to call and ask.

I have heard of guys mixing up a small bottle of the grades they want to combine, at the expected ratio, and putting in the freezer for a while. They look at flow characteristics cold and separation once warmed up.

I believe in running the right oil for what your doing. If you love in Arizona and you pulling all the time use 15/40.

But we live where it gets cold. Still use 40 weight oil because once your motor is warm that's what it needs. However have you ever tried to pour 15/40 when it's -30 below. I mean oil sitting outside. Your motor is getting much lubrication and you run the risk of turning a bearing. When it's getting cold switch to 0/40 or 5/40 just my two cents.

I will now be running a 5/40 in the winter, and 10/30 and or mixing with 15/40 was not a good thought!!! (but I would do it in a pinch situation)

I dont know what the owners manual says about the 6.0 recommended oil, but a dodge recommends synthetic I can't remember if its 0-40-or 5-40 for winter, but its 15-40 for summer.
I know lots of guys running synthetic in their 6.0 and for the extra cost of it, they say its worth it.

I run T6 5w40 year round. Roughly cost me $94 in oil and $9 for donaldson filter.
